Update on my new car...

I went on vacation Sunday and I took this loaner:

My one-week-young 07 Cooper is IN THE SHOP AT THE DEALER ALREADY!

Percy:

has already tested my nerves and frankly, my patience and confidence in the Mini brand as well. I feel foolish in my purchase from some aspects, as already I have experienced the following problems (within the first 700 miles):

-I have air leaks in both of my windows.
-The windows moan when you lower or raise them when wet.
-The driver window no longer inches back up when you close the door.
-The trunk takes two or three tries to close proper.
-the passenger side taillight is showing a line of clips and is not seated properly.
-my stripes and pillars are stained permanently from the factory washer fluid!(they said some of the samples werent properly diluted)

I am in Cape Cod and will be picking up my vehicle when I return, but damn... I thought a new car brought peace of mind... I almost want to trade it and get that Baja I always wanted....

I've heard tons of horror stories on the Mini brand, too bad you got one of the many cars..

The worst part is, among the community, people are accepting it as normal to have their trans/clutches, etc replaced within the first 3000 miles under warranty....

I bought it because I wanted something smaller, reliable, but solid, with a good warranty and great gas mileage. I didnt want an Impreza and the Mini seemed well worth the $20k I paid for it. It seemed solid and well balanced. And with 3/36000 incl maintenence, 4/50k bumper to bumper and 4 year roadside assist, i was confident in my purchase.

Shelfy, with respect, I didnt want to purchase it on a fad fling. I just wanted a new car that someone else didnt abuse before me.

Needless to say, Ive been looking at 06 bajas with low mileage......

Sorry to hear about your troubles Mike. My ex-coworker bought a low mileage Cooper S a year ago... I rarely saw him driving it... it was always at the dealer's garage.

It seems the windows are a common symptom... I remember him being angry of constantly changing window motors!

He had also the clutch changed at 30K (kms)...

Anyways, not to put you down or anything... just drive it for a couple of years then replace it again...

Mike,

I was looking at buying a Cooper S before I decided on the Lexus. The deciding factor was the questionable reliability of the Mini...

Sorry I was right, see ya at the shore meet.

P.S. Here's a great site with reliability data

Yeah, this video clip kind of speaks to Toyota product reliability.
