You might think that Jason, but it is not actually correct.

The '96 and '97 cars still had the "power mode" shift map in the TCU, and it is activated by the same on-demand method. The only difference was the power light was omitted.

Joe Spitz outlined detailed specification for each year of the SVX based on manufacturer supplied detail [he works in a Subaru main dealership]. The '96 and '97 cars are both listed as having the "power mode", see this link:
