Does your Subaru agent have a wiring diagram for the impreza or whatever car the gearbox came from? Surely somebody on this forum must have access to one.
I don't have a diagram unfortunately, but I did some searching on impreza forums and it looks like the signal wire is green (possibly with a black stripe). If the wires are in the same order as ours then the middle one (brown) will be the earth, that leaves white to be the power. Phil.

Phil, I have a half cut SVX from Japan so I will pulll the speedo sensor from it today and we can give it a go. What will the colours be on the SVX sensor? Do you know if the output is AC or DC?

Okay we have made progress (I think) finally we have a repsone from the sensor but it is not as we thought. The wires are as you suggested guy just that the mode of action is different then we thought. To explain the signal wire completes shows a response by enabling you connection to go to ground. I connected the ground wire of the scope to the ground wire of the power supply and the probe to the singal wire nothering happened got no signal. In frustration be get lock in the aslyume I tried the probe connected to the Power and the earth of the probe connected to the signal wire. This worked and then I checked it with the multi meter and it worked the same. Interesting thing is that it means that the unit is not voltage senstive it just complets the circut for what ever power you supply it. Also if you disconnet either the power or ground of the other two wires it won't work. So Gentlemen have we discovered some and are we making progess I will now trying wiring into the computer as you have both suggested. THis might explain why Phil got 5v and I got 9v on the white wire it doesn't matter as it is just getting a ground source.

Harvey, high there hope it isn't as cold were you are that it is here, I didn't put it on any form of drive I just rotated by hand which didn't give a clean signal so I can't answer the question. The GOOD NEWS IS THE SPEEDO NOW "WORKS" and it reads right against the GPS. I still need to sort out the cruise control as it doesn't work yet so I offer you and Phil the next challange. Appricate the help getting this thing sorted out one day I plan to drag it up your way and thank you in person.

Your description of how it works makes far more sense than what the service manual describes. The controller floats the line and the sensor pulls it down to earth, 4 times per revolution. Are you using the impreza sensor or the JDM SVX one? Quote:

In my (USA) service manual, Chapter 3.2 (Automatic Transmission and Differential), Section T4 (Transmission Control Unit I/O Signal). There is a table showing what each pin on the ECU is for. If your Aussie manual has a similar table, could you tell me what it says about pins 11 and 17 of B66 and pin 6 of B68. I'm starting to get an idea now about how the TCU works. Looks like connectors B66 and B67 are all inputs and B68 is the outputs. Phil.

Pin 17/B66 is the input for the No. 2 speed sensor. Pin 6/B68 is the out put for the speedo. The B68 plug has all the gearbox operations on it, eg solenoids, torque control, dropping res, etc. B67 has all the inputs from the gearbox, eg, temp sensor, inhibitor sw (except P,R,N). Harvey, Phil we have success pin 11 & 12 which are the Nutrel & Park on the Auto function in two ways, when the circut the is closed eg in N or P the engine can start but it also pulls a relay that opens the circut for the cruise control. This relay behaves as if the clutch or brake was touched, in is in the same circut. The soluation to the problem is to connect the 11 & 12 to the netrul postion switch on the gear box and away it goes problem sloved. I have now sorted out all the problems and just need to get some plugs to tiddy up the job a bit better. Thanks guys for all your help.
