Unhappy Strange shifting behavior

I'm starting to notice some weird shifting behavior that's really confusing me. It just started doing it yesterday on my way home from school, but I thought it was my imagination because it was late and I was tired.

It seems my 1-2 shift is really really soft. It used to be a very firm 1-2 shift with light throttle(it seems like a characteristic with the 4.44 outbacks) but now its actually very soft... but way too soft at 2000 rpm or lower.

When it shifts from 1-2 it kind of feels like its a manual with someone letting out the clutch super slow while gassing it so I feel a hestiation in acceleration before it actually goes into 2nd gear and starts pulling.

2-3 kind of pauses a little bit.

This is all at light throttle. It seems that if I am a little heavier on the throttle (gas it up to 2500 rpm) the shifts are more crisp and I dont seem to have that weird pause in shifting.

Is it brake band related? Do I definitely need the shift kit? Should I be ready to replace the tranny with a 3rd 4.44?

It seems brake band related but it's kind of weird that it did that it started doing that in only a week's time. I read up on adjusting the brake band but I'm kind of hesitant to try it.

That describes my 2-3 shift problem to a T...ive been having this issue with my tranny for 2 years now with no change for better or worse. Doesn't happen every single shift but happens more often than i'd like it too. Ive always wondered what it is as well...because im not sure the brake band has anything to do with the 2-3 shift.

It might be the 2-3 shift because according to one of chi ke's old posts the 4.44's shift from 1-2 and 2-3rd very quickly.

How many miles is on your 4.44? How many days of warranty they gave you?

Do you want to try unplug your trans resistor to see if there's any differece? Any power blink code? How does your fluid look?

My 4.44 is not totally done...I test drove once time at the place. It didn't sound like what you described. It shifted pretty quick.

Unplugging the resistor isn't something ive tried although ive wanted too. As Tom can tell anyone my fluid is perfect...keep in mind i have a nice big cooler in there too. I'd be interested to find out what the issue is...like I said its been there for 2 years now and hasn't gotten better or worse. Its just stayed the same.

I have a 6 month warranty for my transmission. It has about 85,000 miles on tue transmission.

The fluid is brand new it was all put in about 2 weeks ago.

I didn't unplug the resistor yet. I'm going to try it tomorrow. It used to shift pretty quickly but I'm not sure why it started doing that all of a sudden.

Wow, 6 mths warranty is great......how much did you pay for your tranny?

Sometimes a simple trans resistor can do quite some funny things? At least on my case.

A big nice cooler? Your tranny is too cool. But my teal one has two nice little tranny coolers in there with Redline High temp with the stock ration tranny.....it doesn't shift as your case.
