Battery Dead - Stuck in Park and in garage

Well, i left the dome light on...3 days later i check on the SVX, battery is dead. My car is in a single stall garage and my jumper cables are no where near long enough to reach. The car is stuck in Park. I put in the key, and try every position, even pushing down the brake, and the car won't take itself out of park. I need to get this thing in neutral so i can roll it out. Is this possible with the SVX? I tried searching threads, no mention of this. I may just need to buy a trickle charger and juice it up that way, but i'd like to get this thing running tonight. Any suggestions?
I have a 1996 L version BTW. Thanks.

Go to Walmart, and buy a jumper box, they are like $35 and up, pop the hood, and you can go jump yourself!

Don't climb in and accidently lock the doors. They need power to open as I found out by practicing emergency trunk exits.

Is there a shift lock release button right below the big button on your shifter, or did they stop doing that by '96? (My '92s have them for taking the transmission out of 'park' if the key's not in).

Wow... another SVXer that's also a railfain. Do you know about Trainorders.com?

Use the shiftlock button or you may need to open the little plug and use a screwdriver to take it out of park.

I managed to get the cover plate off, and started to unscrew the screw. Question here:
According to the Subaru SVX manual, it says that when taking apart the cover, screw and slide the protection plate to the side, and then shifting to neutral...that after you fix your problem, that you need to take it to Subaru to fix the lock. I'd assume it's ok to just move the plate back over, put the screw back in and close the plate, but just wanted to double check that this won't cause problems with the gear shift or security system. Thanks for the help!

when it says "fix the lock", they are assuming you are having a trouble with the shift lock mechanism, not a dead battery. you can replace the bolt and put it back to normal.

my car got stuck in park once - i was lucky enough to have a bolt that wouldn't budge, and the bolt head got rounded off (the factory screwdriver in the toolkit is a piece of crap, BTW). turned out the fuse for the horn was blown, which also fuses the shift lock mechanism.

Just wanted to write back letting you guys know that getting into the shift lock worked great. Took off the cap(very hard since the gearshift gets in the way of a screwdriver), unscrewed the long screw, the slid the cover to the side. You then need to stick a driver into the hole, keep the key out of the ignition, hold brake down, and slide into neutral. Got it pushed out of the garage, jumped, and the beast was happy again. Thanks again!
