Engine overhaul begins...
I snaged the shortblock yesterday, and tossed the 4 boxes of top end parts in a pile, I may pull my other short block out too and build 2 engines I'm too excited to be working on an SVX again!

are you going for a rebuild to stock specs? or are you doing anything fun with it. PM me if you want some performance parts at a good price.

I need to ask something, does the stock 2.2 T legacy rings and locks fit the SVX? If they do, they must be more durable, hence better in the rebuild

Well the ring may fit... but how many SVX engines do you see blow through rings?? Besides that I know the pins are longer for the 2.2L pistons due to a different cast. I can see using the 2.2l rings to save a little money because there is an aftermarket for that motor though

Tom, I think I'll have a little fun with it, but I'd like to build a more asertive engine for my SVX when it gets a new lease on life, any advice on what I can do for this one and still keep it simple? The only somewhat firm plans are the entry level ECUtune...

Well if you don't want to blow the money for the stage 2 then I have nothing for ya. The stock MAF is too much of a restriction to into anything. I was going to suggest some of the parts I installed on the Ebony 5mt... It was probobly making about 300 crank when I sold it

I cannot see an SVX burning up rings on a motor unless it is pushing close to 400. And that will still take a long time, as long as it is tuned properly and maintained

Isn't life expectancy an issue here? let's say the standard EG33 is 230hp. it will last till 300,000 miles. Tuning it to 280hp will make him last till 200,000 miles. But with high quality internals will compensate for that difference. This statement is purely related to the life expectancy thing.

To be brutally honest... I doubt seeing an N/A SVX make more than 350 hp in the next 5 years. Everyone who wants to go FI will probobly end up using 2.2l pistons, which solves that riddle about the rings. Seriously though a mild EG33(~300 Crank) will not have life expectancy issues if maintaned properly. Beating a car up is not always bad, as long as you know what condition it is in and what you can and cannot do. Also you are thinking too much in terms of math. Think about how an engine works and wears over time. Also think about how long head gaskets usually last for most... just over 200k, some go sooner. Rings will obviously not matter if this is the case
