Why so much street racing?
There's like so many topics on street racing, is it really that interesting? Why is there so much of that here?

I guess I have missed it. It goes against the rules and regulations of the site.

Cops have killed it in Sac like the riaa has downloading....But I digress its a cheep thrill to be had ANYWHERE and Anytime the most you have to be concerned about are the other people on the roads and some racers go as far as shutting down(no more legal BTW) the road just to race a little safer.
you also have to account for any inconsistancies in the road like gravel or potholes that type of stuffs. its all about the adrenaline and yes its male and females, gay and straight, black and white everybody who has a need for speed will do it at sometime.

I don't think street racing has become all the rage here recently, even though I have seen the threads. Prior to Chris making the street racing rule, we had just as many, if not more, street racing threads. I think the problem comes the fact that we have so many new members who haven't even read the R&R, and because it seems as if none of these recent threads have been locked. Basically, we need to start making examples out of people.
Personally, I don't care either way whether or not we ban street racing threads. I enjoy making fun of idiots.

Normally between all of the mods we read just about every thread - but we have lives too and miss some here and there.
If you catch a street racer thread just hit the report bad post button and we will get an email with a link to the thread. We can handle it from there

Because its fun. And yea there are some ppl here who shut down roads for minutes to get a race in. Over here at the Nathan's on central ave alotttt of people meet up thursday nights to show off their cars and bikes. Cops are there too to keep things from getting out of hand but everyone usually leaves after a while and leaves to go race in he bronx or other places.

I think "because it's fun" is right on the mark. Racing is fun, regardless of where it takes place. It happens on the street because taking it to the track just isn't feasible most of the time.
Vrooom, vrooom! Vrummm, vrummm! "Hey, nice car. Wanna race? "Sure!" "Okay. Well, the Street Legals start next March." "March? Oh, I'm busy the first half of march." "I think there's a family day april 10th - or was it the 11th?" "Why don't I just get your number and we can schedule a day?" "That's a good idea. Let me get a pen and paper." (Dig, dig, fumble, dig.) "Okay, my number is 555-12...." "Oh look! The light turned green. See-ya!" Vroooooooooom.... If all they wanted was an audience, Friday night on the boulevard would have been a lot easier to schedule. Quite frankly, racing in the street is less expensive than on a track, and few tracks are as much fun as the boulevard. The local drag strip in my area is about $50 for the first race, and roughly $15 a run thereafter. Many people who would like to visit the drags don't have enough money for gas and a pack of smokes, let alone the price of admission. Most street racers never get caught. Why pay money to use a boring track? I went to the drags once. It was fun. It was expensive. I probably won't do it again until I get a new car or modified engine that I want to get precise numbers for. Now, with these new G-Tech meters, I'm not sure there's any reason to go to a track. I want to race Laguna Seca. Any other track like that would be fun, but the only substantial local track in my area is Seattle International Raceway, which is a dull track, and it's still waaay more expensive than a speeding ticket. I'd really like to race on an actual road course, but that doesn't even happen in the United States. I can get several speeding tickets for less than it would cost me to take my car to a track, and I can race anywhere I want. What's my motivation to use a track? Street racing is a cost / demand problem. The demand is only there sometimes, and when it is there, the cost is usually way too high. Until a day at the track costs less than a day at Disneyland, 95% of the people who want to go, won't. The rest of the time, a stoplight is more convenient. |

Street 'racing' is dangerous and irresponsible and that's why we don't condone it on this site. Innocent people get killed and property gets damaged. Just last week, here in Champaign, IL, two jackasses dragged their way down a street in a commercial area. In the middle of the freaking day. Both lost control. One of them ended up in a parking lot, across two lanes of oncoming traffic, and the other flipped his car through a Mercedes-Benz dealership, doing $300,000 in damage. I'm closing this thread because I don't even want any argument. It's not open for discussion and there is no justifying it. If you want to talk about your street 'racing,' go to some other site. Not here. Edit: Your local track is more expensive than a speeding ticket? I can't even tell you how mad that makes me to read. How irresponsible can one person be?
