Hey count me and my stepson in! Someone just posted a short blurb on this over on the Yahoo site that I picked up this morning. We are in University Place (Tacoma LOL) and don't mind a drive to wherever with our 92 & 94. I'd appreciate it if someone could email me when a time/date/place is picked though. mccleerydon@attbi.com.

Possible locations
Well since we dont have any possible meeting sites yet, im going to throw a few out based on my limited knowledge of the Seattle area. Keeping in mind that someone will have to pick me up from the airport my suggestions will be around that area.
1. SouthCenter mall (big food court) 2. Airport 3. Krispy Kreme (is there one?) 4. Metropolitian Grill (not near airport but I hear food is good) Thats the end of my list for now. As far as time goes I would prefer 1 or 2 in the afternoon, would make it easier for me to get a flight in. Need some other suggestions here people! Scott |

I'm open to where ever the masses want to go , BUT keep in mind that airport security makes it nearly impossible to gather there. I am rather new to the area (just moved here in July) so I will check with wife and stepson who are liftime residents and see if they have any ideas.

One thing that might be fun is an indoor gocart track in Fife. $20 for a darned good run and a real blast I guess. (I haven't tried it myself)

That sounds like a good idea. Brandon (stepson) and I have been there (he much more than me LOL) and it was indeed a lot of fun. One word of caution though, even though it is technically indoors it is same as outside as they keep all of the bay doors open for ventilation. That last time I went with him it was about 30 degrees and that is cold running 40MPH in an open cart LOL. But first time you also have to get your "license" which as i recall, was another $20. Also be sure and bring your own driving gloves. I had to spend yet another $30 on those .

If we are going to get together around noon or after and eat lunch, we need to remember that we have a limited amount of daylight this time of year.
Looking at the areas that people might be coming from - Tacoma, Lynwood, Redmond, Burlington, and BC. - we might be better off trying to stay in the airport/south center area. It is a little more of a central point for everyone to get to. If everyone wants to go to Fife, that is ok too, but it was just a thought. Earl

That's true. However, they have a huge parking lot there at the cart center and also, we could rent the whole thing for a couple of hours pretty reasonably (much more reasonably than $20 per 15 minute race LOL). Brandon is going to call them and inquire how much that would be. If the group wants to go that route I'm sure i can take care of working it out.

Ok we called the cart place (Grand Prix racing) and they do indeed rent the entire facility for groups. A one hour event is $725 for up to 24 persons. That equates to $30 each if we had 24. That also includes supervised racing and a ceremony at the end complete with Trophy awards.
They also have a 3 hour event rate which is $60 per person with minumum of 25 or $1500 max. Not bad if we were actually able to gather that many to participate. They do have time slots available Saturday between 11:40 Am and 3PM. Let me know Don McCleery |

Wow sounds like some great ideas! Here's my opinion though. I think it might be better to try the cart place next time. I'm not sure that we will have 24 people out this time as this was put together on pretty short notice. A rough count and I think we have 6 or 7 maybe? Not sure. I know of a couple guys that can't make it and I personally would prefer not to go south of Sea-Tac this time - I like the idea of a more central location and that would be about it I think. It's Thursday though so I suppose we should figure something solid out pretty quick.
I'm thinking the idea of renting out the cart track for our group might work great in early March. Chad from Eastern WA will be picking his car up in Puyallup not to far from there at that time and maybe would could coordinate that. Also there were a couple other guys whose cars were out of service until about that time. And if we give 3 weeks notice or so people can plan for it better and be available. I could easily see us getting that group of 24 next time. (even if we didn't quite get 24 SVXes, there are always friends, spouses, etc that could come along for the cart racing)

I have to agree that it is too short a notice (and still a bit on the chilly side) for the cart racing idea. If only seven of us showed up it would cost $100 each and thats no fun LOL. But I also agree, we definetly need to nail this down ASAP so travel plans can be made.

OK I've been racking my brain for the last hour, looking at maps, etc to try to find some place cool to meet. The Southcenter Mall idea a couple have already suggested might be a good idea. Still not too terribly far from Tacoma (where it seems the majority of cars will be coming from) and a bit less of a drive for the couple of us coming from the north. And right next to the airport for if Scott is still planning to come. Like Scott said, a big food court if some or all of us want to have lunch, and it shouldn't be too hard to find a large area of parking lot to have to ourselves.
Any objections/other ideas? I think we should make whatever we are doing "official" by this evening as some people don't get a chance to check in here much. At that point we could also put up a definite post in some of the other forums and email some other area members. Maybe a couple extras will show...

Sounds ok to me. Might be a good idea to get cell phone numbers from all attending so we can direct everyone to the correct area of the parking lot. It is huge and could end up with us all rolling around looking for one another.
Mine is 253-961-3551. There will be three of us in two SVX's Don McCleery PS what time? Say 1pm ? |

1 pm sounds good to me. We'll have to see if that work for the others, but I think that is along the lines of what we've been saying all along. I suppose we should figure out a corner of the parking lot to meet in, at least at first. Probably in front of one of the larger dept. stores or something. I'm not real familiar with that mall, not sure what is there.
Cell phone #'s is a good idea, for those that will have them should make things a little easier. Mine is 425-501-1821.

Well the food court is around on the south side just east of Sears. So out in front of there should work out fine. Plan on the outer edge of the lot though as close in fills fast there.

I'm amazed how many people are going to come. I should have two SVXes and the Vanagon VX with at least four people from Tacoma. My son was really interested in the Kart track of course. Maybe we could make the Kart track an option in the PM. Does someone know how to do a poll? Maybe we could put in a few options and use that for info to make decisions. I'm meeting my Vanagon driver in Tacoma at 9:00 if anyone from South wants to drive up together. My cell #253-988-8385, I usually keep it in the car. Feel free to call me at work for any reason 7:30-6:00 253-473-2474.
