Dumping fuel
Hey All,
Still haven't resolved my seat belt dilemma and now the engine has given me a fit. It started a long time ago when it would have a hard time starting after it sat for about an hour. I have posted several times on this and some of you have had the same problems. It got to the point that it was backfiring in the upper intake and blowing off a hose to the IAC unit. I took it over to a Suby tech (trusted fellow) and he pulled the plugs to check on leaky injectors. Four of the 6 plugs were wet with fuel so I bought 6 brand new injectors. After he put them in it still had the hard start problem, almost like vapor lock. Fuel pressure regulator seems to be working fine. What else could be causing this? After it cools off it cranks fine. Have a compression test run on the engine. Sounds similar to a burned/leaking intake valve/valves. If you were having injector probs it may have caused a lean condition in one or more cylinders and burned up some valves.

Some of the old hotrodders have what they call heatsoak.....where the headers heat up the starter to a point of which it wont work small heat sheild fixes this. and Mine's done something a couple of time where it wouldn't start in park so I shifht it to nutrak and it starts right up....? also check fuel filter, regulator, distribution block? and all the wiring to the injectors(also check to make sure of the proper voltage and resistance) and the fuel rails last but not least.

Nope
That's what is so odd. I've gotten codes before like "temp sensor", fixed it and went on my way. The codes are checking out fine.

What year is your car? Do the OBD-II cars have a self-check procedure they can run through?

Right, but the OBD-I SVX has a self-check mode for when the car is off. Have you tried it to see what it comes up with?

Bad Coil
Update on the saga... The mechanic further tested the car and found a bad coil pack. He thinks that it is causing a misfire, which is then sending bad exhaust past the O2 sensor, then causing the computer to send more fuel to the engine. He thinks this is why it’s still dumping fuel, even after new injectors.
I priced the coil packs and most lists buying two at a time. Should I buy two or just one? Still no codes showing up on the computer. Paul |

Find another mechanic. If the coil was causing a misfire there would be an overabundance of fuel in the exhaust and the O2 sensor would tell the computer such. The computer would then lean the mixture to compensate, not enrichen it. Duh.
Check the cam sensor with a good scope/gmm, more than likely you'll find its output to be barely marginal. Typical Subie problem.
