Oil Choice?
When i do the rebuild next week for the head gaskets, gonna get the service done as well!
What sort of oil is everyone running? Grade, etc? The tech data book says 6l of 10w40! Anything make it run any better? Phil 92 SVX (UK) |

I use Mobil1 synthetic fluids in everything on my car, and have had no problems. Lots of other members swear by them as well, as well as RedLine products for trannys. As for weight, with synthetic I use 10W30 year round. In very hot climates, or hard use, (racing and such) 10w40 may be the way to go. But I've had no probs with 30 Jonathan |

Depending on the conditions of your seals, if they're not leaky run Mobil 1 10W-30!
If you've had slight oil leaks in the past and want to run synthetic, then use Valvoline Max Life Synthetic 10W-30. As my seals are starting to leak, I'm running regular Valvoline Max Life 10W-30 which has stopped my leaks completely and seems to work very well will my engine. In the future, I may try a 50/50 blend of the Max Life regular oil and synthetic. -Chke

I run Mobile-1 fully synthetic. It's probably a waste of money, but it does last longer than petroleum-based lubricants, and I'm lazy when it comes to changing oil. If I can put it off a little longer, it's worth something to me.
Some people claim to notice performance gains with synthetic oils. It was probably a placebo effect in the SVX, but I think it was significant in my motorcycle. The friction inside an engine is considerable. I would believe that this may have a real benefit. I know thinner oils are advantageous for this reason, and thicker oils are discouraged for economy reasons. |

decisions, decisions...
Press the issue and you're likely to get just about as many brand, weight and composition recommendations as there are members on this forum. You won't go wrong abiding the specifications in your owner's manual, and selecting a reputable brand based on price.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic, by the way, and have for a few years now. If you're replacing all the seals in the engine, you shouldn't have any problems. But it leaks out of my seals because they're old.
