is it the belts????

Alright, here's the deal, whenever i'm idling i hear a squeling from under the hood. I'm assuming it's the belt. I just had all of the belts replaced less then a year ago, and the noise just starting the other day. It only does it when i am not excelerating. If i touch the gas at all, it stops. What do i do? and should i be worried????

1. Check both belts (A/C and PS) to see if they are cracked or worn.
2. Make sure both belts are tightened correctly.
3. Try to locate the source of the sound, could be that a bearing in one of the pulleys is going/went.

The AC electric clutch will make that noise when it is going out as well.

Yes, with relatively new belts and AC, I'd keep an eye (or, um... ear) on the pulleys. They can and will seize. A mechanic with a stethoscope can tell you for certain if one is circling the drain.

Also check if the crank pulley hasn't separated and causing the noise. Are the belts dry/clean?

This may sound silly to some, but even something as simple as the brand of belt may be to blame - not all belts are created equally.

I've found that the DAYCO belts on my '62 Corvair are more likely to get thrown off the pulleys then any other brand (they're actually a tiny bit wider & don't sit in the groove as well).

The Dayco's would also shread on my last car, a Dodge Stealth, where all pulleys checked fine. Could easily be a similar issue here.

Dayco's are usually in a black/grey package
Kelley-Springfield in a green/white package
not sure about the other brands.
Hope it helps.
