too bad really.

i know most on this site love manuals but i actually prefer automatic. especially on the track because it gives me more opportunity to focus on my racing line, competition, and corner workers. not dealing with gears was great. dont get me wrong i still had to listen to the car to know what gear it was in but all in all the experience was great and i had lots of fun.

If I remember correctly, Jim Hall's Chaparrals had automatics. Don

Talking next time

Chris, thanks for you offer of the part first. if you see an SVX with spoiler sometimes appears in the Engineering Campus, that’s mine! : ) are you in downtown? If you tell me more, I could probably guess which SVX is yours. I saw SVXes w/ all kind of color over here ?blue, red, maroon, white, black. If you give me some hint, I might guess which is yours.

Thanks Don. I checked on the map is about close to 100miles from my town. I am very busy with my homework and projects this weekend. I can’t make it this time. If I could, I would like to go and meet yours SVXes not you guys. HEHE Next time I will try my best if there’s any other meet around my area please let me know, Don.

I knew somebody would bring up bracket racing
The reason bracket racers like auto is because you're racing your dial in time, and consistancy is the name of the game, and an auto tranny will always be more consitant than the driver can shift a manual(heck, you can beat a 10 second Mustang with a stock GEO Metro, if you have more consistant times),but in the real drag racing most use a electricaly<sp?> shifted manual(to eliminate missed shifts), because they are better at putting the power to the ground, and have less power loss though them.

Oh yeah!,
Ichecked my mileage last night, and got 20.4 MPG mostly city driving, which is pretty much what I got with the auto in it.

Actually I took my svx home (to small) instead I brought my 535i. It's [svx] silver w/ spoiler. I'm a first year E.E. and have Dr. Winn if you know who he is. I live in Lyon Tower and the SVX was parked at the law school for a short term.

Huck, Thanks for clearing that up for us. All I wanted to know is, if a 10 second Mustang or even a Geo Metro pulls next to me at a light, All of my 237+HP ready to go, and my new 5 spd in place, when I punch it, I want to be sure that my gears won't be following me down the street. Anyways back to the swap. I know all of this is new to many of us, and we're all curious to know how both of your performance tests will turn out. (I included you here, alex_umn)
BTW, What type of clutch assembly are you using? Is it the stock you're using for now, or did any of you change to high performance aftermarket equipment? I'm just taking notes. This MAY be on my to-do-list for next year.

As for the gearbow holding up, I'm positive that the manual will hold up better to abuse than the auto.
I'd say the weakest link in this setup is the clutch, I think you'd smoke a clutch before you'd break the tranny(and I know somebody will prove me wrong ) But I don't intend to race my SVX, just wanted it to drive it a little more spirted, in my day to day driving.

I'm running a new stock clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing, but I believe Alex_umn is going to run a hi-po cluth set-up.

When I have some spare cash to buy a G-Tech I'll check the 0-60 and quarter mile times anybody got one they want to loan me??

Going to have my rear rotors turned tomorrow to get rid of that annoying break shake.

Huck,

Let me first say that you are the envy of most of us hanging around here. Keep a towel around to wipe our drool marks off your car, will ya?

How is the ECU and TCU handling the swap? Is your dashboard at this point lighting up like a Christmas tree?

Inquiring minds want to know...

I hadn't heard that, but if so it wasn't the only weird thing about the Chaparral. The 2C had an active (moveable) spoiler around 1963 (?). The 2J (1970) had a snowmobile engine driving twin props that sucked air from under the car. That car was quickly banned from competition. Hall never got to race that car, due to a bad accident in 1967 (?).

I never have been able to get excited about Nascar, because I was so much into GT, CanAm, Grands Prix, when I was a kid. That was RACIN' !

Drive down here and take me for a ride with that 5 spd and you can keep my g-tech until I see you at the next meet.
