Cool

Sorry for the update delay; I was called out of town unexpectedly for work and am just now getting back in the swing of things...

Project R&T Guide is progressing nicely. I have succesfully split the guide into individual pages (much easier than I thought it would be) and have about half of it scanned. However, I need some feedback from all of you. This guide is actually much nicer than I thought it would be. I was expecting a lot more text and not nearly so many excellent pictures. I originally thought to do the majority of the guide in grayscale, and just select a few choice pictures to do in color, but now I'm thinking the only way to do this project justice is with lots of big, beautiful, high resolution color. This is how I have started things, but the final full color version is going to be a huge file. So, what do YOU think? Any suggestions for distributing this (I have a burner and would be happy to make a few copies, but not hundreds)? Or would you rather see a smaller grayscale version first?

This thing is taking longer to scan than I though, because I keep reading when I should be scanning

I'd love to see it with all the pictures in full color. Putting it on a CD seems like the best idea to me. I'd be willing to help make/distribute CDs if enough people want them.

Yes, if we are going to go through the trouble of scanning it, it may as well be the highest quality image possible. Go for it!

<<(I have a burner and would be happy to make a few copies, but not hundreds)?>>

Since you are doing all the work, How about making a few CD's sending them to others with burners and we each make the copies to distribute. If we get 10 people with burners and they each make 10 copies that's a total of 110 CDs (including the original 10).

I'm volunteering to make copies. I'd be willing to do 20-25 copies. We could then mail the copies to a central person who could deal with distribution.

Sound like a good plan?

Doug

You GOTTA have the pictures with it. For those that have never seen it (and won't get a chance to get one) it's the Grail. Yep, gotta have the pictures. I know that everyone doesn't have broadband, but we can 'take care' of them a CD-R.

Talking DCC'em in IRC

For those of us who do have broadband, I'll host the file on my PC and then people can D/L it through the IRC channel through a DCC connection.

What am I talking about you say??? It is basically a small time Napster type operation where we make a peer-peer connection and the file is sent to you. Of course, if you are not on DSL/Cable or better you'll be far better off to get the CD version

If there are enough broadband ppl. here I will be willing to explain it all a little more later on. Basically you need to connect to the IRC channel (ie our chat room) with an IRC client like Mirc or such, as I'm not sure if the Java version supports DCC connections.

One question, though: why would you be burning perfectly good CD's?
