Windshield broken, cover missing...

Yesterday I found my front windshield cracked and the metal cover over the bolt on the rear wiper gone...

I have full-glass coverage, but anything I should know before getting the front windshield fixed?

Also, where can I get a replacement for the bolt cover on the rear wiper?

The glass company was at my house yesterday to change my front windshield. It took them about a week for the glass to come in. It's a factory part only. Two guys showed up and had the windshield out and the new one in in twenty minutes. I just couldnt use car for three hours becuase the time needed for the low temp adhesive to cure. The company was Sunrise Glass.

TINT... BLUE OR BRONZE???

The glass guy wanted to know what tint the other glass in my car is, bluish or bronzy... Mine is a '92 silver/black and it looks to me as though the tint is bluish -- I hope I'm right. Isn't there a designation in the VIN to say what was installed? He said the dealer told him "no." Any wisdom?

There is a dark coloured bar of tint running across the windowscreen. It should be obvious from looking at [through?] this what colour tint you have.

From memory of previous posts, the tint seems to follow interior colour rather than body colour. So you might expect bronze with beige leather.

Check it though, should be obvious.

Wow! That's a good deal you got on glass. The windshield was $800 the last time I checked.

Did they have to take any of the inside apart?
Did they replace any of the rubber moulding on the outside?

Thanks

The dark tint...

At the top of the windshield is obviously blue/green. My interior is dark grey leather, so again, I assume this means a bluey/green tint. Or, I might wind up with an original color clash SVX! Thanks for the help.

Also, while they have the window out...

Wouldn't this be a great time to pump in some silicone behind the dash to silence the creaks? Seems like it would make this an easy job coming through the windshield area...

De nada Billisa

Would expect yours to be blue/green alright with the black seats.

My '91 is the same, and I have black and purple faux suede seats.

It's a good thing they only have two tints for the range, makes getting glass that bit simpler.

Your dash must have been out at some stage, or it would not be creaking. It is a fairly involved job getting it out, and there is a how-to on it in relation to the "popping" heard as the car heats up. You should look in some of the lockers about this procedure, Randy should have it. You can put in the anti-popping pads, and ensure everything is tight and non-sqeeky going back together.

creaks

When its really cold outside (-20 ish) I get solitary creaks from the back of the dash, near the windshield.

This sounds like a common problem .. Is it???

Anything that can be done tho I am pretty sure I wouldn't remove the dash for silicone insertion..

Thanks and send me a pm if you have any ideas

When they changed mine they cut the moldings of from the outside than cut the top and the sides free from out side the car. than they used what looked like a specailly made recipricating saw with a gaurd over the blade so it wont scracth the dash to cut the bottom glass seal free. lifted off glass. scraped the remaining sealant off. put the new sealant down. place the new glass into sealant lining up the dowels on the top of glass to position. wait for sealant to cure and good as new. Hold a sheet off white paper under shaded part to see the coler of it.

If you want a new bolt cover, it is part# 86538PA020, subaruparts.com or your local dealer. It is $2.11 if you order it online (plus 8 bucks shipping )

If you want a free used one, email me your address ...
