RE: transmission
Greetings all,
I found a svx in the salvage yard around here. I was wondering if it was a good idea to buy the transmission and have it rebuilt. Kinda as a spare if mine goes out. I don't know if that's a good idea and how much I should spend for it. I was thinking the same with the front axles. Any good ideas? What else do you recommend to pull out if it's good? Thanks for the help! |

It's a great idea depending on several factors. 1) Cost of the core. 2) Your long-term commitment to the SVX. 3) Disposable cash for the core and a QUALITY rebuild. 4) Reduced down time for swap.
approx $2000 for DRW Transmission to rebuild approx $4000 for Level 10 to rebuild

If you can get it cheap, just set it back, it was working good enough to wreck the car it was in so it should work good enough to use in your SVX untill you can have yours rebuilt.
That way you don't have to put up the extra $$ unless yours goes south

re: huck
that's what i was thinking huck. if it works for a bit, might as well get it if it's cheap. good to have a spare since the transmission subaru made is such a problem to some. but whoever needs a front end, the front end on that wrecked svx is immaculate. the hood, front, lights all are in VERY good condition. hood looks brand spanking new. the salvage yard plans to cut off the front and sell it for $1000. the passenger side was in a t-bone wreck. trunk is without a spoiler but also in very good condition. actually it seems MUCH MUCH lighter than my trunk for some reason.

Axles
If you get the tranny you might as well get the axles too. Once they're off you shouldn't have much trouble rebuilding them yourself!

re: that svx
the color is the cal...whatever...the burgandy kinda red. once again the front is immaculate. i know they want $1k for it. two marker lights are basically brand new. i don't know how much you want to spend, but it's really nice. the rear latch and those mechanisms for the trunk are in great working order. the seats suck, leather and cloth and full of broken glass.
if you want to redo some seats, a friend of mine's uncle does reupholstery so i can find out how much to redo them. i'm thinking about redoing my seats. |
