When it rains it pours.

Nobody's had anything to say about the SVX for a little while, but when someone does say something, that's usually a sign of a short trend.

1. Tuesday night I had to take the wife to the emergency room for a shopping cart-related injury. Don't ask. She's fine. Anyway the nurse who brought her out when we were leaving had a couple questions.

2. Yesterday we went for a little drive through the country. We stopped in Manchester (as quaint as Michigan gets) for Dairy Queen. My wife noticed that I had parked in front of an American flag. Good thing I had my camera, as I think I got next year's July calendar pic. A couple stopped to gawk at the car a little, so I strolled up to talk to them. They owned an Outback, had never seen one of these, it's a sharp car, yadda yadda yadda. They're always surprised to hear what model-year it is.

3. At a stoplight, a couple hours later, some college guys in a Civic next to me. Not boy-racers, more like frat party-boys. The one in the front passenger seat had some interesting questions, but my favorite comment was 'but you only get half the breeze with those - hope you have good air conditioning.' He wasn't poking fun at the car - that was the only full sentence he got out after a string of 'but how does...' 'how much does it...' 'where's the...' fragments.

And that's it.

I'm not driving the SVX to work any more. I drive a car now that gets looks, as well, but for entirely different reasons. Unfortunately, with the SVX in the garage, my wife no longer wants to drive her Explorer. Argh.

Nick, give Amber (aka "the trophy wife") my best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

I haven't had any cool comments on my SVX for some time now. Perhaps it's the ugly crunched fender. I think I'm getting a complex.

Thanks but, as I said, she's fine. The ER visit was probably unnecessary, but we were both worried she cracked a bone.

Nick,

Sorry to hear about Amber. Glad she's ok.
You have to be careful of some people driving shopping carts; especially those that are overloaded, have Firestone tires, and are built by Ford.

Yes, when you have that mod done, I'll give you PLENTY of comments. None of which you'll be pleased to hear.
