Re: Earthquake in Christchurch

I emailed Trevor in Auckland (about 700 miles from Christchurch) to see how he was.

He said:

"Special thanks for your thoughts John,

Yes we are OK as we are are in the North and remote from the quake. Auckland had 3 minor quakes last night, the strongest measuring 4.5 on the scale, with minor damage.

My wife Anne has a brother and family in Christchurch and thankfully they confirm they are safe and their house away from the city centre is undamaged. Even so they have moved out meantime to stay the with friends and be away from the aftershocks."

We continue to pray and keep you in our thoughts

Most of NZ is on a Fault line.
Up untill the Sept 4 Earthquake ive only felt a few earthquakes in my lifetime.
Now ive expereniced over 1000s of aftershocks.

Last time the Top fell off the Cathedral Was about 1880-1890? from an earth quake.
But this was byfar the most damaging.

Re: Earthquake in Christchurch

Well we had another major earthquake aftershock
Had a 5.5 and a 6 Magitude 10kms down.
It felt just like the feb earthquake.
Lots more damage done.
45,000 households have no power.
Most of Chch has No water or just a wee trickle coming out of the taps.
At the rate we going the whole city will have to be rebuilt new.
Lots of bridges closed.
Im sick of the shakes.

Pluses... both the SVX and Suzuki Alto are still sitting on the axle stands lol

Good luck to all of you. I would be a mess if I were in your shoes. It will be interesting to see if another quake follows in Japan.

They revised the Magitudes.
Now it is a 5.6 and a 6.3 Magitude 7kms down
That quake was scaryer that the feb quake.
I really expected our house to be chucked off its foundations. I was supprised to walk outside and see it still in place.

Getting used to it
It only took a day to reopen most of the local mall.
Its an experience to watch a movie with it shaking.

We have had 3000+ earthquakes since the sept one.
The Landscape has changed so much. Seen pics of some of the cliffs near Taylors Mistake slide into the see.
Theres mounts where areas used to be almost flat

Im amazed the grandchancler hasnt fallen yet. Ofverstly the Foundations being completely filled up with conceat has kept it standing for this long.

Re: Earthquake in Christchurch

What a lovely start to the xmas hoildays... Another big shake 5.8 8kms down

I think every thing will be shut early for the year.
I had to grab my book case make sure it wouldnt fall over.
It was pretty violent. It was like the feb quake but not as bad.
