Unhappy Help! I Don"t Want To Get Rid Of Her!

Help me please! I bought my svx about 3 months ago after totaling my first a few years back. This one is becoming a money pit. Since I got her, I've replaced the tranny, rear wheels bearings, and tire which I expected because I know these are expected from svx's. But now she needs Shocks/sturts. I've looked all over the internet and can"t find anyone that sells them. I dealer wants over $1500 for just parts ( I would do the labor). Does anyone know were I can get aftermarket shock from, or if they fit from another kind for car???? Thanks for the help.

Get Koni inserts from classicgarage.com
It's the most reliable and best option. You may need to get new mounts from Subaru though, as they are the only source for the mounts.

Re: Help! I Don"t Want To Get Rid Of Her!

Hi philly; What is the mileage on your SVX and do you know how the mileage was accumulated, city driving, cross country, backroads? How many previous owners? Is the car bottoming out or clunking? Inserts or shocks can last a long time. We have several family members with a subarus with originals at over 200 thou. Unless you want crisp handling and can afford the inserts, stock inserts can go along ways. You only need to replace the inserts, (in the past called shocks.] Sounds like your dealer was quoting for more parts. Try 1stsubaruparts at 1 800 -261-7366 On their web inserts are listed at 115 ea. You may need some additional nuts and bolts as you can see on their site. Also it is quite a job replacing all four. Tell us more of your condition and we can give alternatives. Koni's and Bilsteins are some of the top of the line for inserts-shocks and have been for along time. I have a set of konis never installed. Still satisfied with the orginals. Steve

Cool Re: Help! I Don"t Want To Get Rid Of Her!

Hey Sierra, I want to thank you and anyone else how replied to my desperate plead. I have a "92" with 115,200. I bought it about 2 months ago with 114,760. The svx I had before this had 126,000 and drove better then this. This one bottoms out. I have no idea how it was driven or what the owner did but it feels like crap. I can live with the price you said you found and we give them a call, but the price the dealer gave me, I would have to sell her. Are you intrested in selling the koni's you have? If so give me a price at my pm. Thanks!

Re: Help! I Don"t Want To Get Rid Of Her!

Philly; You need to get your SVX up on a rack or jack it up safely and checkout the suspension and evaluate the condition. If you are not familiar with this. Have a front end alighnment person look at it before you spend any money on it. I would be suprised if it needed inserts with that low of mileage. You may just need rubber bushings on the sway bars or bolts tightened. I doubt you would have collapsed springs unless your car was used for shipping moonshine in Georgia. If I were on a budget and did need inserts I would only do the front first. Tell us what you find and share your fixable mystery. I prefer to keep my koni's and my Perlie. Steve
