Question Replacing the Speed Sensor

Hi, i recently bought a 95 SVX LSi, (which needs some work), and one of it's problems is that the speedometer and odometer stopped working about 15k after the transmission was rebuilt. The check engine light came on when this happened, and the error code read that the speed sensor in the transmission was the problem.

Does anyone know how much it might cost to have this problem fixed? I believe the transmission has to be dropped to replace the sensor, which i found online for around $200. I'm under the impression this isn't a job i could do myself, because i don't have the tools to drop the transmission.

Re: Replacing the Speed Sensor

The speed sensor is easy to replace without dropping the transmission. It's screwed into the front diff housing at the back of the engine bay on the passenger side (LHD).

However, a common failure point is the gear that drives the sensor. You have to open up the transmission to change that one. But inspect the sensor and its connector first. You might be lucky.
