S.O.S. 92 svx, code 13, replaced all sensors$$$, still code 13?

Hi, my name is Rick,

My 92 svx died on way to work while driving aprox 40-50 mph, chugging stall
plugged one blue wire into terminal #2 and turned key and read code 13.

I replaced (3) both sensors under alternator and the one between the valvecover and battery.

what else would be giving me the code 13?
Are there more than three cam/crank sensors?

i giveup trying to fix it myself.

I will answer to anything and will post when problem fixed and how fixed for others to learn.

Thanks Rick

First question have you reset the ECU by unplugging the battery for a few hours :P do it over night and then see if the codes come back

Re: S.O.S. 92 svx, code 13, replaced all sensors$$$, still code 13?

Here is what i have done:

remove neg terminal to battery for longer than 24hrs
cleaned MAF intake sensor
removed fuel line from filter to confirm fuel
checked wires from sensors to connectors on opposite ends.

Do i need to remove both terminals from bat to clear ecu?
How do I check the ecu?

I learn fast, someone please? I love driving this car more than i love my wife!!
I just want to know what my chances are that its eletrical and not a stuck valve....

Well, does it still crank over fine?

If it cranks over faster than it used to then perhaps your timing belt is toast.

Could be the timing belt? Pull off one of the side covers to check it out. If the belt's not turning the cams, it can give a cam sensor code.

you asked if its cranking faster than normal? first crank is normal then it cranks abnormaly fast.

Tomorrow i will pull the timing belt cover and check.

If i go back to work and check the timing belt and its fine, how do i check or test the crank/cam sensors? (they were about $500.00 for the three!!)

What is the ohm resistance for the crank/cam sensors?

The crank and cam resistance is around 2.5K. The best and simplest way to measure it is probing the connectors attached to the ECU. This way you will check the harness as well. If you need more info about which connector/pin you have to connect your ohmmeter to just let me know.
If you have already removed the alternator you can check both the sensors (2.5K) and the harness (80K).

ok, 2.5k resistance for sensors under the alternator, there is one more next to the battery, are there more of them?

Where is a list of all the sensors and their specs?

Thanks in advance, Rick

Re: S.O.S. 92 svx, code 13, replaced all sensors$$$, still code 13?

There are three "position" or "rotation" sensors: crank 1, crank 2 and cam. Crank 1 and crank 2 are under the alternator, cam is the one close to the battery. The crank 2 and cam sensors are identical. All three of them have pretty much the same resistance. I haven't measured the resistance you can see at the cam connector (harness) but I don't see any reason to be different from the 80K I was talking about.

Have you checked your timing belt is not snapped?

Remember, an error code does not necessarily mean that the sensor is faulty. It means that the data from the sensor does not make sense. ie. The crank sensors are saying that the engine is turning, but the cam sensor is saying that it is not. So the ECU says WTF and reports an error 13.

Since you have replaced the sensors, it seems likely that they are reporting correctly. The crank is turning, but the cam is not because the timing belt has snapped.

Rick,
Believe it or not try replacing the two wire water temp sensor.

Electrical - Powertrain control - Coolant temp sensor
Coolant temp sensor, svx 1992 - 1994

Re: S.O.S. 92 svx, code 13, replaced all sensors$$$, still code 13?

ok, it was the timing belt, here is what i have learned: if you get a code 13 and its not a sensor, remove the timingbelt cover near the battery and check its tension.

I was only the two top nuts that i had to remove to check.

i had it towed to my drive and now im going to start removing everything between the front bumper and timing belt.

I ordered a new timingbelt from napa, its total was surprisingly under a hundred $.

when i remove the old belt i am going to check for play in the gears.
will post what else i find if anything, thats including problems i run into and what i should have done to prevent it.
