Air intake hose missing? Help!

I was cleaning my air intake line and noticed I'm missing a hose between two outlets. Tell me if I need this? (item number 2) It looks like a by-pass.

Yes, you need that.
Without it you have unmetered, unfiltered air leaning out your intake charge.

Wey?

That explains why I have been getting bad performance and a bad O2 code even after changing the sensor. Thanks!

Custom made tool for removing the PCV valve

I came across this problem because I was changing the PCV valve. Good thing I did. Thanks for your responses. I also would like to share my photos of a custom made tool for removing the PCV valve. Tell me what you think.

It has been brought to my attention, by a learned gent, lounging back in his new garage, that the meaning of PCV, may be misconstrued to mean some thing else, as noted here;

I think it is a great idea. Cheap and practical. Pick up a second hand spanner(wrench), contact someone with a gas axe and you are in business. Well worth delaying the job to make one.

Edit P.S. It would be a good idea if you specified the dimension i.e. the points where bends are made, so that others can make one in advance of a job. Easy if you have gas on hand while doing the job, but otherwise a first measure and then get someone to bend, exercise. The details should be included in the "How To" stuff.
