Best Offset on wheels?

If I'm gonna get wheels that are 17 x 7.5 should i get ones with +45, +48, or +53 offset?

Stock Offset...

is 55mm., if I remember correctly, so 53 would be best.

To me it's just 3 pics that do not tell me anything. If someone can explain what i was looking at i would appreciate it. But my understanding is the closer you keep the offset to the original 55mm the better you are. What 17" wheel was found with an offset of 53", i'd like to see those. While i was shopping i didn't see anything with more than maybe 48..........

Pay attention to the location of the wheel hub surface in relation to the center line of the wheel in each of the diagrams and you will see the difference. Also, pay attention to the text under the first diagram.

Significant Technical Input
Ya, that picture is actually pretty good illustration of the what "offset" means. It's not giving you #'s but showing you what offset is so you can understand what the #'s mean when you are looking at wheels. If you are shopping for wheels and you don't understand it I would take the time to look it over more closely until you do.

The basic points you should be finding out are:
1)the offset you want will depend on the width of the wheel you choose.
2)the larger the positive offset the further out of the wheel well the wheel will sit and the more likely the tire will rub the body
3) the smaller the positive the further inside of the wheel well the wheel will sit and the more likely the tire will rub something on the inside

If you are getting a 7.5" wide wheel the closer to +55 the better.
If you are getting a 8" wide wheel a +49 works very nicely.

I'd agree Michael. I have 16x8" wheels from a '93 RX-7 with a +50mm offset. According to a wheel offset calculator I stumbled across on the internet...

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...eel+calculator

...the inside edge of my wheel sits just 1mm closer to the strut. With stock 225/50 sized tires, I've had no rubbing issues whatsoever!

But then you also have to think Like I am for a set of autocross tires and wheels 17x8 +42-+49 you also have to include the non stock tire size 245,40,17. so I'm thinking +42 myself in order to give the tire 5 out of 10 inward bound rubber clearance.

Just A Second...

I've got the same wheels (16x8 RX7) with 245/45's and no rubbing. Your offsets, (less than 45mm) will v. likely cause problems at an 8" width.

These rota wheels are 17x7.5 and they come in gold and +53 offset thats what I've been looking at. I think it'll look really clean on my blue ^_^.
