Krupp Bucketwheel Excavator versus Caterpillar D8R (Large Images)

Here are some pictures from the Hambach mine in Germany. Obviously, the bulldozer got caught in the wheel and pulled into the superstructure of the excavator. Anyway, these pictures tell quite a story. The excavator is as tall as a 30-story building!

Caterpillar D8R Funfacts:
Weight: 38,000 pounds

Krupp Continuous Bucketwheel Excavator Funfacts:
Weight: 14,500 tons
Capacity: 314,000 cubic yards per day

Yikes!

I was up in northern Alberta (Ft. McMurray) and took a short visit of the mining area. The guy with us said they have 7 of Cat's 797B Mining Truck (their largest). These are running 24/7 so I didn't actually get to see one in person.

Here's the specs:

There was a Discovery Channel show of some sort on the 797. Amazing stuff. The list of parts that can be replaced in the field surprised me.
