SVX Value

Something akin to this happened in the late 1980's in collector car circles. A few major collector car dealers bought up most of the available "choice" cars, then took turns "bidding" on the cars with no actual sales taking place. Cars would be advertised as "valued at" a high figure, based on bids. This lasted only a short while because eventually they really wanted to sell their cars. The inflated collector car market took a dive and lots of poor, unsuspecting investors took a beating. Classic cars and collector cars can be good investments, but any "coming classic" is pure speculation. Your best bet is to drive and enjoy the SVX as long as you can keep it running and in safe driving condition. Seldom do we see a car that was a poor selling new car later become a collector car. It happens, but rarely.

What about a nice article in SCC about a supercharged 6 speed svx that can whoop a wrx, or an intercooled turbo svx with lambo doors and blingin' 18's. Something that would appeal to the ricer community followed by everyone here putting their svx on ebay for +$10K. It seems to work for all the other import supercars. I pour all I have into my svx and if mine ever gets totalled out I'll be forced to strangle someone.

That is why I have more than 1. If I total one, I know that I have one that was purchased at a resonable price. I have been trying to buy them all up so they will be in shorter supply and they will be worth more. I am trying to do my part.

I'm serious...When mike finishes stage 3 I think a letter to SCC would be in order. Since I've been here I've seen some major strides for the svx. Lambo doors, Turbo/Supercharger that might work, rocker panels, commonality of the manual trans all great stuff. And not in that order.

Lambo doors, turbo/supercharger... see, what you're describing is no longer an SVX.

I'm not suggesting some sort of dopey scheme to artifically inflate the value of these cars. Rather, that the community of knowledgeable SVX owners is best qualified to appraise their true worth. Seems a simple concept that I'm doing a dismal job of getting across.

"Rather, that the community of knowledgeable SVX owners is best qualified to appraise their true worth." Do you think an insurance company will base a cars value on what a community thinks it's worth? I'm not in favor of screwing with what makes an SVX an SVX but If it takes giving people what they want then so be it. A five speed SVX is better than a crushed one any day. Transmission failure is why 90% of them are out of commission, at least around where I live. I just want to let people know that the SVX is worth making a project out of. Don't throw them out because the dealer gave you an outrageous estimate, it is still a great car with performance potential that shouldn't be sold on ebay for $400.
