Oxygen sensor question

I've been searching the board and haven't found an answer yet so I'll ask. My SVX won't start. When I crank the starter for the first few seconds it seems like it will start but just spins shortly after. the new plugs were fouled hard by either carbon build up or a very rich fuel mixture. When the engine gets to the point in which it sounds as if it would start, I hear a metallic vibration in the exhaust leading me to believe one of the 02 sensors exploded during a back fire. Will the car start or run if I disconnect the 02 sensors? I remember driving an SVX I had a while back without an exhaust system at all so I would think I could start this without the sensors hooked up, but I don't know. Also where is the fuel pressure regulator in the SVX?

Thanks,
Chris

The SVX will run without the O2 sensors plugged in.

Do you have any engine trouble codes?
