Holy freaking crap.
My woodruff (crank) key broke as well, but not that bad.
You didn't hear any obnoxious clanking while driving before this?

You'll need a new key, pulley, and you really need to check if that sprocket is ok, because mine was practically welded to the shaft.

I guess this solves the mystery of whether my aluminum pulley was bad or not. If this happens with OEM pulleys, we need to pay better attention to the crank bolt torsion.

They're difficult to get off the crankshaft. Gently using a gear puller, making sure not to bend either of the tone rings attached to the sprocket, does the trick nicely. It's just a tight fit.

An uber tight fit.
Mine had oil baked onto it though.
We used a valve puller and destroyed the sprocket, but got a new one. I didn't want the baked one anyhow.

I think this problem (baked sprocket) stemmed from the time my water pump broke and I kept driving. The extrme heat could very well warp that fragile key.

yeah, the sprocket is pretty toasted too, so im probably going to have to replace all 3 parts (crankshaft, woodruff, and sprocket). Don't worry though, i have no intention of trying it myself (once i saw the timing belt, i said screw it). Gonna take it to my mechanic. Just wanted to take the get in there and get the gist of it for myself (and learn a thing or two). Thanks for all your help though guys.
