"It pays to be nice to people"

I always tried to put myself in their shoes, if that makes any sense. Twice this past winter I got nabbed, once a county dude taking advantage of a long, lonely stretch at the outbound edge of a tiny town (its still 35 but its so desolate/empty/edge of townish that your instinct is to resume 65) and for failure to dim for an oncoming State Trooper. I got a warning for both, but my point is, be polite, pull way off the road, shut down, hit the dome light, rest both hands on the wheel casually, have the window down, be ready. Its hard for me to crane my neck around to look at them, for these days it seems they want to stand waaaaay back from the door, rest a hand on the pistol butt and shine the flashlight around looking for surprises. For all I know, they could have just finished a high speed chase and the adrenolin is flowing, or the little woman just filed divorce papers, who knows.
The failure to dim was kinda of funny because it was an accident really, I was just anxious to get back to the high beams (stock headlights, altho polished) and I flicked them back on a split second too soon, but he was nice about it, asked about the car, how I liked it (just fine, had it for 10 years this coming Feb., that sort of general banter.
It pays to be nice to people.

Yeah it does pay to be nice to cops. The only time I gave a hard time to one was when I got pulled over for kicking the rear end out around a corner going 5mph during a snowstorm in my 2.5RS and got pulled over and given a warning for wreckless endagerment. After the ticket I took off in the snow while the cop spend about a minute trying to get out of the slush I pulled over in.

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

I got pulled over in my Loyal after getting sideways in a snow storm and the road I pulled over on was not plowed enough for two cars to go by each other. I pulled up on to the snow bank out of the way and the cop had to park in the road, soon he had 5 pissed of people trying to get by his car so he just just told be to behave and ran back to his car to move it, he had to back all the way out to the main road becouse there was no place to turn around. Woops
