New team leader....

For those who were worried that Burns was leaving the Subaru WRC team....

That's good news, he's a great driver. Overall, I'm not a huge auto racing fan, but I really enjoy the WRC events. I love watching them catch air, power slide through corners, throw huge dust clouds, splash water all over the place....

What I don't like is seeing the Fords and Mitsubishis ahead of the Subies. Maybe this will change that.

Yes I think he will do fine with Subaru. Burns is going over to Pea...Peu...Peu...that French company. Jean loves to watch Imprezas top hills and fly above the treetops. She especially likes to see the cars splash the camera people. She does NOT like to see all the people get in the WAY!!! I agree. I look from behind my fingers to see if one of the cars now has two in-the-road spectators for hood ornaments... Don

Unhappy

WRC is my #1 motor sport, and I'm sad to see Richard leave Subaru to go to Pewgot My prediction is that bringing in Tommi as the #1 driver at Subaru will not help their cause, but I can see that Richards move to Peugeot will be good for him. I hate to say it but the 306 seems to be a better all around rally car than the Subaru right now - good for loose surfaces and tarmac alike.
I love Tommi Makinen to death and will continue to support Subaru in 2002, but while Richard, my #1 man, may not pull it off this year (only 3 events left and 9 points adrift), watch out next year

Colin,

Perhaps I should drive for Subaru.

Yeah, the spectators are absolutely insane, sometimes. It's a wonder a lot of them don't get wiped out.

In the NZ rally I watched on speedvision this weekend Burns jumped a bridge, almost lost it and ended up with the suby on 2 wheels at one point. They had the perfect in car camera shots where immediately afterwards he pats the copilot on the knee, then about 30 seconds later he says "was lucky" with a straight face, the copilot replies with a straight face "it was" and they speed away as if it never happened.

I don't know where I heard this, but it does sound possible. I heard that after a stage in a rally last year, one of the teams found a finger lodged under the rear spoiler! I guess as some of the cars make tight sliding turns, some folks like to reach out and touch the car....

....gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "digital connection". Don

...or disconnection, in this case.
