Rear bumper removal
I'm trying to remove an intact rear bumper from my parts car, and I am hoping someone here can help me out.
I have removed: 3 bolts under bottom lip near muffler 2 bolts above each exhaust tip 2 snap fittings and 1 bolt in each fenderwell 2 nuts inside trunk on the sides of the car (1 on each side, in front of and below the rear side markers) The sides are free now, but the bumper is obviously still held on by something that I have not yet been able to locate. Anyone have any information on this? Thanks! Mike

It looks like there are plastic clips all the way across the top of the bumper cover. They are indicated by part 14 in this diagram.

Yeah, I think it makes sense now. I was thinking it was going to be possible to remove the bumper skin without taking anything else off, but it looks like the whole bumper assembly is coming out to get to that set of clips. The stuff I already removed is all the atachment points other than the bumper beam, allowing the entire assembly to slide out... we'll see tonight.
I'll write up a how-to if I ever figure out the "right" way to remove this thing

The good news is you are almost done - you've figured out the tricky bolts on the sides.
The skin is held to the main bumper beam/assembly by 20 or so bolts that you can only undo if you remove the whole assembly. The assembly is held to the body by 4 largish bolts accessible on the trunk floor - remove the carpet and the cardboard thingie and look for longitudual beams at approx 1/3 car width. There are 2 bolts on each side. They are hidden under black round plastic plugs. Once you removed the bolts, you will see the bumper assembly move. From there it is simply lift and remove, but it is better done with a helper or you will scratch paint on the body. It is not terribly heavy, but you do need second set of hands to move the sides a out a bit... |

Got it off last night, no problems. Now it becomes one of those jobs that took 3 hours the first time, and will take 30 minutes the next time
Thanks for all the help, guys.
