Re: EGR

is behind the passenger side cilinders, atached to the block. It have two steel pipes connected with two M6 screws each. one of the pipes comes from the exhaust and the other goes to the admission on the same cyl 5. Do not touch it unless you have ECU codes about it. You can even replace it with the one on the legacy outback.

Re: EGR

I am getting a check engine light flash on every so often. PO said it has been doing it for over a year. He was getting an EGR code . He cleaned it and it went away. The car passed emissions 3 weeks ago with the light on. what else causes the check engine light . It has all new Co sensors

Make a new code check. If it's still the egr problem, change the EGR with one from a legacy outback. it fits good but the orientation for the vacuum hese change, so you will need a new hose. Change all the vacuum hoses compromised with the EGR valve. there's another vacuum activated device on top of the EGR valve. It controls the EGR valve too. It have 03 vacuum connections, (P, R and Q) replace that device also. that also can be replaced by the newer outback.

Re: EGR

Mine has a intermittent CEL for ERG code also.
Mine also passed CT emissions with the bad EGR code.
Makes me wonder if the EGR thing is even needed...

P.S. If I drive on the highway at constant speed the CEL tends to turn off.

I was wondering if the EGR be removed and replaced with a resistor or something that give the everythings ok message to the ECU, instead of replacing it?
Or does it actually serve a purpose?

Re: EGR

switching to an early 92 ecu will get rid of the CEL
that ecu does not have an egr function

I am in the same situation, I never see the check engine light until warm weather arrives. After a drive somewhere then a park and return I get the light, check code 32, 34, 32 is oxygen sensor but its fine, 34 is egr solinoid or circut. Last time I drove I did a little experiment when I stopped I popped the hood while having lunch, then closed it and started the car....no CE, ya did this little trick 2 more time worked both times, then stopped for 5 minutes without opening the hood, the CE was back, its a heat thing! The way I understand things is the egr valve is mechanical, the egr solinoid is an electrical valve that the ecu checks for proper value, if its to hot/old/broken/disconnected/whatever, the ecu is not happy. So some day when I pull the intake manifold off for fun I will change that part along with all those hoses, thats my 2cents.Good day to all..............G
