Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Replaced the driver side door check (thanks Tom) and soldered in my speakers. The damn contacts kept oxidizing and making intermittent contact. I was going to replace the Infinity Reference speakers in the front with Pioneer speakers I bought but I got a drop of solder on the cone of one of them and that was not a good thing. The Infinity speakers are probably better but they are coax and that doesn't work as designed with the separate dash tweeters. But, you gotta roll with the punches...

Still waiting for the only local and reasonably priced paint shop to do some test spray outs of the possible colors we want to see in person. Really want to get the SVX to them before snow and ice.

Put the WRXti up for winter. It's getting a widebody with 315 tyres all around for next Autocross season.

my 1989 Audi 200 Quattro's built engine is assembled and will be dropped in by the end of december!

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Winter in house projects planned:
1. Build a circuit for AUTOMATIC JDM mirror folding (open on car start, fold on shutoff with no need for the JDM switch). Heard about the idea here. Saw someone on the other group had done it with a circuit from their friend. Found a schematic on YouTube of all places https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0Q02pww3kw. Parts; with judicious shopping; come to under 25$ plus the mirrors of course. Only prepping to do this due to delays getting the car in the paint shop. Now don't see it going in for paint until Jan (darn).
2. Buy parts for a CAI from Spectre. Can be done for less than 100$ by slow parts pickup from Amazon and EBay. Waiting for a spare OEM intake tube from Nate as we don't want to chop up the original one. Getting a bit concerned about the one from Nate as after several requests we have not got any shipment tracking info.

We have finished the FrakenHVAC (JDM/USDM mashup) installation. Way slower than we wanted but warm fall weather allowed completion under the open carport. The CarPC is waiting installation in more warm weather in April or May.

Related JDM mirror question--Have you actually mounted the mirrors on your car? IF so, how did you get around the difference in the configuration of the JDM driver side mirror mounting part that is at the wrong angle for US field of view from that side??

See mohrds posts in this thread (33, 34 and 35) for the solution. Basically tou have to use the JDM mirrors on the U.S. bases. Fairly easy.

pulled the trigger on a WRC widebody kit for next season of autocross due to an accident. Gonna stuff some 305 or 315s under there and get my racing to become more than a hobby.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

The JDM mirrors arrived. Tested them to see if the folding function works and to determine which two wires power the folding (white/blk and blue blk). Found the JDM market does not have a convex mirror on either side. That's OK. Broke the assemblies down per the "how to" to allow better painting, interior cleaning, and convex mirror installation from a spare USDM right. Will NOT do the fitment mod of the "how to" as we will just swap to USDM bases after painting which is mentioned in another post here. Will continue work on the auto open/close circuit on the crappy weather days. Hope to bench test it next week.

Are using a JDM mirror switch as well?
Then when installed it would be upside down and all controls and diagrams would be reversed. Down is up and right is left, etc.

Would be so much more convenient to be able to add the folding ciircuit wired independently to the ignition --- unfold when the ignition is on and fold when the ignition is turned off.

The auto open/close circuit actuates the mirror open on car start up and closed at car shut off. No JDM or other switch needed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0Q02pww3kw. The manual command switch in his circuit was for bench testing only.

However that being said we dropped a few $ to pick up the JDM switch assembly "just in case".

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Hot Darn. Our paint shop called and said the test sprays were done. After looking at 3 greens settled on No. 1 planned pick. Dec 28th the car will go in for a full repaint with Nissan D10 otherwise known as Emerald Mist Metallic. They will also replace rear fixed quarter windows (internal corrosion/lumpy in the black trim, paint and install a JDM rear spoiler, paint and install Dayle's side skirts and the generic Mustang front dam. They will also paint new for us JDM (with USDM bases) folding mirrors parts and spare door handles. No rush as it is winter and though she goes in the snow want to save her from road salt. (Our first SVX bought new in 92 or 93 died of road salt cancer).

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Not today but a week or two ago. Blew it the **** up, kinda. Left it idling in the parking lot to warm up, went to talk to a buddy a few spaces away, turn back around and steam is pouring out of the hood. the rad fans never came on and the car just kept warming up until the top of the radiator popped off.

Time to rebuild an engine!
