Question maintenance problems

My back windshield defogger doesn't work and the light on the dash comes on and the metal strips tested ok with a test set about a year ago but it doesn't take the fog away. I was told to check the two connections on either side which I will do but are there any other suggestions out there? Also my remote control doesn't work any more and I was told to go to subaruparts.com and order another remote transmitter, is this the best parts store to go with?

The remote battery may be dead. Radio shack has replacement and you can search here to find it.
I don't know about the rear defroster. Do any of the wires clear off the fog? I assume inside fog. If you disconnect the leads to the window is there a resistance measurement to check for the wire grid? It may just be poor connections.

GP27A is the battery from Radio Shack. Is it the remote, or is it your security module? Does your security switch blink when the ignition is off?

The manual suggests using a small square of foil to wrap around one of your test leads, to test the wires. Place the foil wrapped lead on a wire, the other on the connctor to check for continuity. Perhaps, if you just unplug the defog terminal, and use a pencil eraser to clean it, then, reattach it, it may work again. Just a suggestion.

thanks

Do you mean the little batteries are GP27A in the module (there are about 7 or 8)? Some are corroded but also the wire inside the remote transmitter is unconnected. I wondered if someone could take a digital picture and email it to me to see where this wire would be soldered back to.

I will first check the connections on the rear defogger and then do what you suggested with the pencil eraser. The strips on the window tested with a test set and the light comes on up on the dash.

Also, the security light does come on and blink on the dash but I don't have it on now since I have to maually lock my SVX and don't want the alarm to sound every time I unlock it.

That's cool you and your significant other have SVX's. Are you going to Reading?

The GP27A battery is one small battery, shaped like normal AA/AAA. It replaces the 7 or 8 button-type batteries that originally came inthe remote. They are much cheaper too, about 2.00 for a pack of 2.

Check here for photos of how thw wire inside the remote is connected. Look in the "old/new alarm remotes" folder http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/user.php?SVXtypeR|1572

The wite is connected to the metal strip that fits in a slot in the top of the remote. The pin that has the keyring attached to it presses snugly against this strip, making contact. You should be able to see the solder joint where each end of the wire was attached.

Here is the thread that talks about it http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...ghlight=remote

That should fix it. And then there is the remote "chin trick", but that's another issue

My friends keep asking me why I walk around with all of that tin foil on my head and chin. They just don't understand about my remote for my SVX!

Earl,

I don't need the tin foil. They don't call me "Chrome Dome" for nothing. I can use my remote works from 3 blocks away, using the forehead technique.
