Question Tape Deck Q

yo my homies-

when I'm driving around with a tape in the deck playing, I notice that as the engine revs part, say, 3k, there is a very noticable whine that comes from my speakers, the pitch of which (poet!) increases as my revs rise. This is most prominent when I'm using a cassette tape adapter to hook my portable minidisc player up to the stereo. Any ideas what could be causing it? I'm not exactly dead-set on making it stop.. maybe one day I'll buy a new head unit with a "line in" on the front or something

Adam,
This is indicitive of a "dirty" connection somewhere. You could try cleaning your battery posts and your grounds (body, alt and engine block). You could also try cleaning your radio ground wire (supposing you're using the stock unit). If you remove the panel under the e-brake and look slightly forward on the driver's side of the tranny tunnel, you'll see a black wire, attached with a phillips screw. That's your radio ground. After that, it could be any number of grounding paths.

That's my experience, anyway. Hope you get it sorted.

Tape problem

Try not to let the rev's part! It is cheaper and more fun that way!

Yes bad grounds a good posibility, I'v seen bad plug wires do it too, but that's very unlikely on the SVX.

A front pass through? Why not just get a mini disk player?

minidisc isn't a viable enough format to justify spending $200 on a new headunit when I can just plug in my portable player for a lot less money. I love minidisc and have been religiously using them for about five years, but CDs and tapes are just more widely avaliable than minidiscs will ever be..
