AT Fluid Choices?

Ok, what is the fluid of choice for the SVX? I'm planning on doing an empty/fill on it but not sure what to go with?

I'm thinking Redline in the diffys and ATF?

What's the word here?

Are you thinking a "drain and fill" in your driveway? Or a complete flush?

If you do a drain and fill, stick with whatever's in it. You'll only drop 6 of the 10 quarts of current fluid with a standard drain and fill. With a complete T-Tech flush, use what makes you feel good. I'm not sold on the whole synth thing, but others are. If it gives you peace of mind, use it. Older trannies may begin to leak as a result of synth, since the older the tranny, the more expansion and contraction the seals have seen and the lower viscosity of the synth may seep through (notice the liberal use of the word "may"). You may be just as well off peace of mind-wise and money-wise, to simply T-tech the tranny every 60K or so miles.

Those are just my thoughts. Others WILL differ. Void where prohibited. Do not fold, staple or mutilate. Do not store at temperatures below 32 degrees F. Do not remove this tag under threat of imprisonment . . . . . .

I'm going to advertise for Mobil 1. Mobil obviously has the best resources available; they have the biggest bank account. Do you see any F1 cars sponsored by Redline winning races? Not that I recall. Use Mobil 1 Synthetic. Can't go wrong there.

atf fluid

I have decided to go with Mobil 1 Syth. Its 3.99 -5.99 a bottle and is much easier to find anywhere. I figured since its 1/2 the price of redline I can change it with every oil change in the summer and every other in the winter. Besides, if its good enough for Larry its good enough for me. When I was last at the dealer though I asked what type of ATF they suggested and the service manager said only to use Subaru ATF dex III. It has special stuff in it for our trannies. I'm still using Mobil

I was gonna do the driveway thing cause I don't trust places near me to let them mess with my tranny. At least if I do it myself I know that it's getting done somewhat properly.

I was thinking of doing the Mobil1 mixed with what's in there, any bad stuff come of that?

I would think that what's in there is not synthetic.

You can mix synthetics with non synthetics but its kinda dumb. Synthetics are superior in every way.

Well by mix I mean I'm going to drain as much as possible and re-fill with synthetic, then in 10K miles do it again. Eventually I'll be converted over to full synthetic, but since I'm not "flushing" it won't be at one shot.

synth and normal atf

I think Redline says not to mix on the bottle although it might have been one of the others. Mobil 1 said compatable with every normal atf. Subie put out a bullitin on ATF for its cars that if you look on the web you'll find. I went by it and looked up and compared most of the brands I could find (curiously I couldn't find any specs on Redline). Mobil 1 seemed the best of the bunch for both flash and fire temps and lower temp flow (which is very important when you start up in the winter esp if you have a cooler in the cooler climates).

I used redline in my 97 from new. Now I have changed the ATF in the 92 & 97 to Castrol Syntec. It was on sale.

I will try Mobil 1 Syn ATF next season when its on sale.

find a top notch tranny shop, have them take out 10 quarts and put in 10 or 11 quarts of what ever you think is best. They will know how to get the old ATF out of the TC. Also have them replace or clean the in/tranny screen filter and check the solenoid pack.

My BEST advice is to change all 10 quarts of ATF at 15,000 mile intervals.

Ditto: That's what I had put in after my tranny rebuild. It's rather "spensive" though.

I'm sure there's more arguments in even older threads.
