Enjoying the SVX
My wife and I are in Dana Point, CA for a couple of days. I decided we'd bring the SVX on this trip, something we don't usually do (had it for two years, only put about 3500 miles in that time) as it is mostly reserved for spirited mountain drives.
On the way to the beach I had it washed and waxed. Even though we aren't flogging the car in the twisties, it is such a joy to be in the SVX. First off it feels right at home here, where BMW's, Bentleys and Porsches are as common as a Honda in most cities. Second we have driven with the sunroof open the entire time, and usually have the windows down. Its not a convertible, but I am enjoying the experience immensely. It looks stunning. Honestly, this car looks good no matter what it is parked next to. Sure the classic Ferraris around here are uber cool, but the SVX still holds it own in any company. And it looks stunning freshy waxed (Bordeaux Pearl, totally stock). As a car guy there isn't a week that goes by where I don't longingly wish for some other cool car, it's just my nature. But this week, I feel truly blessed to be a SVX owner. Joel |

Re: Enjoying the SVX
Been there and done that. : I agree that it looks good along side anything and I am proud to drive one, or two, or three, whatever.

Re: Enjoying the SVX
I can share those feelings. Unusual car, and when you know it and with the quirky bits worked out (in my case over a period of ten years), a great car.
I'm off at 8h00 am PDT for a drive along the Vancouver-Whistler Sea-to-Sky highway with a neighbor in Vancouver who has two pristine SVX's (no, I don't think he'll be driving both of them this morning ;-) I washed and polished my Ebony SVX last night in anticipation of this 3-hour romp. The road twists and turns along mountain cliffs whilst looking out over the Pacific Ocean and the snow-capped mountain peaks across Howe Sound. And, it's sunny this morning. Should be epic ... will take pictures. |

Re: Enjoying the SVX
...and it was epic. What a fantastic drive over twisty mountain roads with world class views of the ocean. Truly SVX country. I love the AWD and how it glues the car to the road, all wrapped up in a pretty package, people who don't know the car still ask me if it is new.
I truly love this car... I guess that is why I own two of them! I thought I was alone until I became a member of this site, it is great to be able to share the thrill. Here are a few shots at a rest stop on our Sea to Sky Highway drive this morning:

Re: Enjoying the SVX
Totaly agree with all this, took the pearl out for 170 mile tour yesterday, just because the fuel is from last fall, oh great now I need to fuel up, but worth every penny. We think our 1st SVX is a gift, the 2nd was/is parts, we like to just go for drives, we used to go in the legys and still do if mud or gravel is involved. The SVX is such a joy to drive long distance, this gift was almost given to us, only 1350 for 2 of them, the 1st is 92pearl, the 2nd 92 silver w/444. So fun having 2, just need to get the wife to drive one and me in the other, that would be soooo fun, truly fine automobiles, Cheers......G

Re: Enjoying the SVX
It was indeed epic.
Based on that drive, I am going to enjoy the rear sway bar when it becomes available, but until then .. just finished today the $15 15 Minute mod. I'm going to have to drive up to Whistler in the next couple of days to check it out. |

Re: Enjoying the SVX
Took my SVX on a grand tour from the Seattle area to Cannon Beach, OR and back over the weekend. What a car! The trunk swallowed all of our luggage (just me and the GF, thankfully) and with a radar detector, it was smooth sailing for the entire trip.
Thank you Subaru for manufacturing such an awesome GT! Should have a pic or two shortly. |
