The short answer is ..Yes it will fit, but there is some fabrication involved in a manual swap, see link in my signature....and if it is a turbo 2.0, it will have a hydraulic clutch system, which requires a little bit more fab than the cable set-up in my write-up..

Re: 2.0l manual legacy tranny swap.

no, it's an atmo one.
i know about the modifications needed to install it.
i know your write-up perfectly. i have read it many times!
thanks to you for that
anyway, i ask this because i can buy an very very cheap legacy whit great condition 5 speed tranny.
so i plan to pick up all parts i need from the legacy to put it on my svx.
and discard the rest of this stupid legacy!
but about the drive shaft, did i need lenghten it?
thanks!

Re: 2.0l manual legacy tranny swap.

Depending on the year of the Legacy, you may be able to use the driveshaft out of it, I’ve used a Legacy one before, had to shorten it about ½” and swap the carrier bearing bracket from the SVX one onto it.

Re: 2.0l manual legacy tranny swap.

It depends on the country of origin of your SVX, most euro SVX's have a trans that will not swap directly with the Legacy's. Hopefully Joe will stop by to give more insight...

Re: 2.0l manual legacy tranny swap.

The only way to know is to take measurements before you start taking stuff out from both cars..

Re: 2.0l manual legacy tranny swap.

Physically it will fit, so measurements aren't needed. but the TCU for a euro SVX won't shift a Euro Legacy and I don't think the solution is as easy as swapping TCU's as well.

That's what I thought at first, then I read this line at the beginning of his second post;

My mistake, yes a manual transmission from that Legacy will work. The auto in your SVX has a final drive ratio of 3.7. The Legacy is probably 3.9 or 4.11. But see what you can find out?? Maybe the euro Legacy's come with a 3.7 and you won't have to swap out the rear diff...
