If YT's friend cannot help you out I can have a tailshaft housing and new gasket in tomorrows mail!

I have McGuiverd a lot of things, to get home....
Like the time my brother Mark drove the Vega,
yes Vega,
while I held a case of empty bottles filled with gasoline in my lap, moving the axulirary electric fuel pump intake hose, vice Gripped to the passenger side window frame, from one bottle to the next, so that we could drive it home to replace the failed in tank fuel pump......
But I digress.

Re: Help! Broken Trans Rear Housing(pics)

im guessing that gasket is a dealer only part? ive never looked, but i dont think we carry that at work. is gasket maker a mistake? light right stuff, or any of the permatex products? reason i ask is because 20% off when your broke is a pretty good deal, especially when you dont have a car, and need to get to work everyday, lol. i already have the other rear housing from the old trans, and its unbolted, just has to be split(which is proving to be a massive pain, any thoughts on this)

****, if you cannot get the gasket, take a manila folder, trace the gasket and cut it out... It will at least last a year or so till the auto takes a ****.

It is a dealer part, at least I have always gotten them from them. Good thing is, it will work on all 1st gen 4eat's so they should stock it

Part #31337AA120 Like $6-$8.00...

It should not be a major pain...
Try a HD gasket scraper to seperate the two.

PS, Watch the green wire with the brown connector.

Tom

My local Subaru dealership
DID NOT STOCK RADIATOR CAPS, THERMOSTATS, OR GASKETS,

untill I finally got through to them.

Re: Help! Broken Trans Rear Housing(pics)

frick, i even had a manager at work restart the system to check if we carry it, no luck, even looked for a ford ranger and mazda truck, nothing.

ive tried to trace gaskets before... didnt work. at all. it failed a few minutes after startup. so is that a no on the gasket makers? i also have a sealed tube of trans sealer stuff straight from subaru in japan(its all in japanese, idk, my brother said they gave it to him for a trans pan gasket) would that work?

YTs home made gasket is at least the right thickness.
I just made one like that, OUT OF GASKET MATERIAL
(part #something/something from Advance Auto Parts)
for a manual transmission last week!

Re: Help! Broken Trans Rear Housing(pics)

lol, we carry three, cork, one really thin, and one a bit thicker than a manila folder. didnt think it mattered, just making sure!

the fluid completely coated the first half of the driveshaft, and underbody, so i need parts cleaner. ALOT of cleaner. will this eat up the undercoating? i odnt want to have to buy that to.

I have just checked the stock Subaru gasket with a micrometer and it is
0.020" thick.

You are welcome.
