Too much B.S.

Hi

I am pissed after reading this forum for the last hour.

There is so much petty crap taking up space, that it is getting hard to find useful information.

Unless you are a mechanic/specialist/guru - SHUT THE **** UP!!!

This car is complicated enough. To have so much here-say, contradictions and 'ill-advise' opinion clogging up the forum - is not helping any of us.

Mike

Re: Too much B.S.

I don't think you have to be a mechanic or guru to make suggestions about a problem that you might have had to help others. And, last time I looked, this was a forum, which inherently means that people are encouraged to join in. That's why I like this forum, there are always people offering advice, most of which is solid.

You are right. I apologise.

I must have just read a bunch of average posts.

Keep on rocking. Sorry to be a grump.

Good on you for speaking out, frank opinion must be accepted.

Your frustration is fully understood. Unfortunately there is no acceptable way round the problem. Convoluted technical threads are becoming a nightmare. Several stupid people continually post nonsense on the basis of broadcasting, rather than as a means of being of genuine assistance.

An even more important problem occurs when a member who claims to be an expert, posts wrong advice. When this occurs correction is necessary in the interest of those who could as a result, become wrongly guided. There is the real possibility of considerable substantial personal loss and or inconvenience.

Correcting the situation has often required tedious, vigourous and arduous argument. Anyone conscientiously doing so, should not be wrongly opposed by biased moderators who are unable to exactly understand the technical facts involved.

Re: Too much B.S.

No one is keeping you from helping organize things... like certain threads? think they are useful? set up a thread with a links to useful threads... and maintain it... and get it stickied... or just bookmark things yourself.

mod section for example is in a much nicer shape... but that was due to fresh blood in the Moderators ranks... but all the older mods are slacking... and have been ever since I joined... my opinion anyways...

Re: Too much B.S.

Thanks for making those of us who come here for a social environment feel so welcome.

It isn't as though I have a whole lot of people in my geographic circle who know and enjoy the SVX.

Maybe if this is supposed to be a sheer informational repository, it should take on an alternate format... a wiki, or something.

If conversation is too much BS for some... I guess everyone else should just bow, or curtsey, and say "yes, your majesty", and clam the hell up.

And blaming the mods is always really productive, too. This isn't exactly the most hopping spot on the net, not that it should be... and even the mods have non-virtual, actual lives, as well.

Thankfully, the mods still stick with other enthusiasts here, in an aging forum about an aging but very good vehicle that is more than a decade out of production, and getting scarcer by the day, it seems. It may sound morbid and even unfortunate, but is true.

I agree, however I must say I haven't liked a lot of the tone that I have heard on this forum lately, including this thread. Does that make me one of the "stupid people" posting "nonsense". It must. Good grief.

Re: Too much B.S.

There has obviously been some misunderstanding here.

Inadvertently at the outset, it was not made absolutely clear that annoyance was confined to technical matters. Brady had been viewing threads including, “SVX cooling ‘Again and Again’ ” and was therefore bound to be somewhat “pissed" off.

It would have been wiser to have included the initial post within the technical threads. I am sure there was no intention to discredit anyone posting within the general sections where a social atmosphere is very important and is highly valued.

I don't think there is much you can do. I think its the chemistry of people at the moment are making the site less tasteful. Not in a vulgar way....the tone has changed ......who knows ....maybe I changed

Im sure people felt the same way when newcomers would get on and start rambling back 5 years ago when I joined

A younger generation is moving in.

I feel the same; sometimes the attitude outbreaks between some members grow a bit tiresome, but all-in-all I drop-in simply to hang out for a few minutes each day, and I like it here. And I believe the moderators do a fine job.

I'm not a mechanic/specialist/guru, and most opinions I offer here are prefaced with an acknowledgement of such. Usually I'm just offering the benefit of my experience, and often that experience was informed by valuable information I gleaned from here. This is a great resource.

I strongly feel that the possibilities/functionality of the forum to better organize and keep relevant threads stickied and or moved to proper sections/sub-sections of the forum are not being utilized. There are plenty of other forums/networks that can be used as examples. (in no way, shape, or form am I referring to the aqua colored abomination of a forum ***just want that to be clear***)

Once again, I will use the Mods section as a big example of that. Prior to YT spending a week or so sorting through threads and moving them into sub-forums it was one big mess... it is still far from perfect... but it was a big step in the right direction. Another great thread that I can use as an example is what Zandar did with the <$100 thread (http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=43177) Great thread... and this is exactly what Mods should do with virtually every section... it would greatly improve the organization and the usability of the website.

Also, half of the mods that are on this forum are fairly inactive (at least from my point of view, granted I am no one to judge), I think it will be safe to say that a lot of them don't even own SVXs anymore, no surprise they do not know what the hell is important and what isn't.

That is what I meant when I said "slacking off", I apologize if this is out of hand, I meant for it to be healthy criticism rather than an insult or an accusation of any sort.

People get really surprised when threads with virtually the same titles keep popping up... with pretty much exact same questions... well I believe that proper management of the forums would resolve these "annoyances"... prove me wrong.
