Taking suggestions for engine options
Alright I have been slowly doing a full driveline and suspension upgrade/ maintenance. I have performed the engine reseal, in doing so I have the refurbished heads from Tom (thanks again Tom), new flex plate (Tom again) all new emissions parts, light weight crank pulley (Thanks Dayle). PnP Ceramic coated Intake manifold and throttle body (includes the injector "body"L&R). SS headers made to stock exhaust spec's are being shipped (finally going to get them after 3+ months) New coolant sensor, new knock sensors, silicone vacuum hoses/tubes. I may have missed a few things but some of my injectors were damaged when I removed them from the fuel rails. So this leads me to be open for suggestions on what to do about them.
Considering going with the LAN ECU Stage 2 set up with Z32 Mass Air Flow sensor and SR20DET fuel injectors. Even though I plan to keep this engine NA rather than go with a Super Charger or Turbo. Or buy some new or refurbished stock injectors? I need help with the pros vs cons. I know some disagree with the way I had the headers made to match the stock set up and may or may not agree with some of the other things I am doing or have done but I like to hear all sides yes even the negatives . Also is there any upgrades we can do for coils? or if there are other options that I haven't looked at or considered feel free to post them I may try it if they make sensor or are worth the cost. Thanks guys. |

Re: Taking suggestions for engine options
In my humble opinion, go with
LANs Stage 2 Version 7, Outlaw Engineer's phenolic spacers., (all 5) with Subaru gaskets, YT's intake, and a free flowing exhaust. (but not TOO free flowing) And you will be very happy with your car. Tom

YT's intake is a good option and I have not thought about that yet although I had considered making one. Time and $$ will decide this issue for me but YT's intake will be higher up in consideration. Exhaust, I will be cleaning up some of the existing set up bad welds and rusted tubing someone did a hack job between the cats and the muffler. I hope to go with the Stebro exhaust in the future but feel I can use the $$ elsewhere on the car for now. So I got a +1 vote to go with the LAN stage II set up rather than fork out money for stock injectors for no potential improvement over stock. |

Re: Taking suggestions for engine options
if you are keeping it N/A just keep the stock ECU and stock injectors. You can get a set for real cheap considering they are the same you will find on side feed subaru 4cyl.

Re: Taking suggestions for engine options
Lan did recommend getting the cams suggesting there would be a noticeable improvement but I am not quite ready to go that route I need to make sure things are working right after all the work and 4.44 swap. Which is why I haven't sent him my tcu and valve body yet because I need to get a feel for the stock 4.44 difference and make sure I don't have other problems. If I can get stock injectors for cheap then that for now is probably the best option though I still like the stage 2 option. I am a bit surprised Tom that u didn't suggest getting the hydra nemesis. Or atleast a stage 1 ecu chip upgrade.
I know that staying N/A pretty much limits suggestions and gains from the different options out there would be minimal. (Typed on blackberry while at Vermont Airport) BTW lots of subarus here in VT didn't see an SVX tho. |

Re: Taking suggestions for engine options
what most people won't tell you, there is no need for an upgraded ECU if you are going to keep it N/A w/ the auto. Unless the engine is going to be significantly modified the stock ECU is just fine. That is why I didn't suggest anything in that dept.
