Re: Rear Ended: SVX sandwiched

I am a new svx owner. I just bought mine on the 3rd of October and on the 9th was rear ended and pushed into a mercedes. The car that hit me hit so hard that you could read my license plate on the hood of the car. I was expecting the car to be totaled but it wasn't. The body shop told me the reason that the car was not totaled by the insurance company was because the interior was in immaculate condition.

Re: Rear Ended: SVX sandwiched

We gave a list of various svxi for sale that appeared similar to ours in condition to the insurance company and they averaged out a price of a few they compiled and reached a total of $4800 for our settlement.

That's great news! You should be able to get a suitable replacement with that!

Re: Rear Ended: SVX sandwiched

On a not so positive note, (and im preparing for the flaming on this) we are not keeping the svx; insurance will be taking it. Sometime in the next couple days I'm going to be heading to the body shop where the car sits, removing my hids and ecutune chip and parting ways for good.

That's very surprising. Wouldnt it be nice to have it as parts for your next SVX?

Re: Rear Ended: SVX sandwiched

I would love another SVX.

However, the claret was not "mine", it was under my parents' names and I just paid for insurance and gas. So I am not the one who gets to make the decisions on what to do with the vehicle.
They see the SVX as an awesome, safe, reliable car...that costs quite a bit to maintain. So this is their reasoning to not get another.

I definitely see another AWD, hopefully 5-speed, subaru in my future.

Unless by some miracle I could find an amazing svx and convince them to consider it, I don't see that car being an SVX. So I may have to wait until the day I buy my own vehicle, but with college coming up in the next year, I think my money might need to go toward a less expensive car.

That sounds like your parents have their minds made up. Sorry to hear it.

You might point out to them that the SVX took a write-off hit and you were unscathed and safe. You could also point out that the Network is only aware of one member losing his life driving an SVX, not a bad average with 15,000 cars imported. We know of quite a few SVXes taking serious hits but protecting the occupants.

The SVX is a very good and a very safe car to be driving. That's important for parents. Sure enough it is expensive to maintain and run compared to newer cars and less complex machines, but what price do you put on peace of mind?

I do hope you get another SVX at some point, and best of luck with your college.

Stay in touch.

Joe

Re: Rear Ended: SVX sandwiched

Took some final pictures, as I am parting ways with the vehicle in about ten minutes. (Some from a few days before the accident)

Removed the hids, ECUTUNE chip, floor mats, few other misc items, and finally as a souvenir, the plastic piece behind the rear faux light that says 'subaru svx'

Spoke with the parents...another svx may be a possibility....

Re: Rear Ended: SVX sandwiched

Sorry to hear about your SVX. I know that if mine got hit, I would be devistated. But I agree that your safety comes first. Although accidents with our beloved subarus are always tragic, it does reinforce the feeling of safety I have inside my car.

I hope your parents say yes to another SVX. But a WRX or nice Legacy would make a suitable replacement as well.
