Re: New Paint & Black Chrome '97 Opinions?

Speaking of black chrome exhaust tips, I put a set of these on my car when I did my exhaust this summer. They're a little thicker than the stockers but suit the car very well.

Re: New Paint & Black Chrome '97 Opinions?

Thanks Alan. In a moment of complete candor she disclosed to me that she doesn't miss the salt. I just finished swapping the 4 suspension corners to the Koni's/springs/tops/swaybars/brackets/bushes/links from my '93. Also swapped muffler. I'm doing my best to give her a good home.

Earl, Thanks. I'll get that info posted.

Alexander, Glad you like it!

Glenn

Subarus are meant for teh SNOW!

the SVX was better than the LGT in the snow (at least more confidence-inspiring) - may be due to the fact that my snow tires on it were narrower, and the front-biased AWD.

CalTrans and Nevada Highway Dept don't use salt to keep snow under control in our mountains, so my Subies don't face that problem. Lots of SAND though!! Subarus are also meant for the WET, a condition we see, occasionally.
A question for the you; Is there anything to be done to minimize the damage done by the exposure? Muffler hanger brackets and anything under the car are generally pretty "crusty" and weakened. Upper spring mounts, especially in the rear, were particularly effected.
I spoke with head of Squaw Valley Ski Patrol a few years back, driving the resort's Ebony SVX, and he said the thing was a tank in the snow, and hard to get stuck with the narrow snow-tires on it.

the car lived in upstate NY the first 5 years of its life previous to me owning it.

i always get my vehicles to a local carwash that has underspray 2-4 times a month in the winter, depending on salt usage. i told my bro-in-law to do that years ago, but he didn't, and now his Pontiac is rusting away under the doors.

Re: New Paint & Black Chrome '97 Opinions?

That makes sense. Then I guess I have you to thank that the car wasn't little more than an iron oxide outline on the ground by now. Thanks!! Hopefully I can add a few more years to her life.

Re: New Paint & Black Chrome '97 Opinions?

When I saw this car in person when Alan owned it, the crappy body work on the left rear was really the only flaw it had. I bet it's AMAZING now!

Yes, me too!

Glenn has done a masterful job sprucing it up, swapping needed parts from his 93 to get the best of both. I drove the car to California from the Atlantic ocean, with son Jon. We had a great trip, seeing sights in DC and Grand Canyon. Yep, a cross country trip in a '97 SVX

Jon and I had a two-man tent, camped out a few nights on the way. Oh, saw the sights at Old Tom's place too, camped out in his basement for a night or two, drove Tom's charged car, impressive

Yep, Alan and I have some good memories in that beast
