My latest project (tomsvx style intake)

So, being the kind of fellow that just can't leave well enough alone, and not wanting to spend the money on something that I can make myself, I decided to more or less copy YT's design with the double intake ma-jigger, and yes, that's right...make my own! I've decided to call this frabtraption the Bontrager Werks twin-power intake.

I don't have any pictures of the fab process, but what I have is just installed on the car. It's not yet painted, but I wanted to run it first and make sure nothing was leaking and it was treating the car alright.

Clears the igniter on the firewall...

Ugly? Sure... NOW, but works like a charm!

And that's what it looks like!

I'm gonna say that the butt-dyno is pleased and my ears definitely like the sound of the midrange now. I thought it had good midrange before, but mmmm, much better now.

What I did was just buy some 2.5" OD mandrel bends, a 2.5"-3" merge collector, and started welding and having a good old time. If the runners aren't equal length, then they are VERY close, but from my measuring and questimations everything came out just about as I had planned. It's easy to get in and out and nothing rubs! (though some areas are close) Getting the couplers on the TB was a pain, but everything else went easy. I made fittings for the emissions stuff and idle bypass so everything works like it should, and I am quite pleased with the result actually!

I'm going to have it painted body-color here in a week or so, then we'll slap it back on and maybe take a few more pictures.

Re: My latest project (tomsvx style intake)

Will do.

I think I need to upgrade my MAF now though... I'd imagine that catback+ intake+ ECUtune 1v5 is getting close to the 250 hp. limit of the maf.

Although it is steel, not aluminum. Might take a bit more work than those A/C lines.

Finally, something that does not include lambo doors, LEDs, or weight reduction.... or whining

Great job man! Putting it on was probably fun? Especially the adapters on the throttle body

Re: My latest project (tomsvx style intake)

Yeah, the worst part by FAR was putting on the couplers on the TB. lol What I finally did was put one coupler on, clamp it all the way down, grease the second coupler and slide it on, then undo and grease the hoseclamp and slid it down between the couplers from the top and put the clamp back together.

And yes, I hit all the joints on the inside with a dremel then ran a rag back and forth in it for a while to clean it out, then I just washed it and dried it. So far, so good. The inside is very smooth and there are no protrusions in there to get in the way.

As far as the rubber that connects the pieces... I think that was just some grease that got in there and it looks dirty, lol It'll clean right up.

And yes, I know the welds need to be cleaned up a bit yet. I like to think I have a bit more class than that, lol. It should be nice and pretty once it's all done. Also, for the H6 cover, I think I may just have the grey part painted body-color too... I dunno. Any thoughts?

Fleetwood, I think. Makes a nice silver paint for rebulit parts like alternators, starters etc. I think it would look nice and kind of match the intake manifold & engine cover. Ditch the red emission lines too.
