Significant Technical Input
Hey Randy, Did you feel that?

I didn't feel it but I was just told there was an earthquake in Evansville, IN. about 1:30 today. Apparently it shook some pictures and stuff around in downtown Louisville - about 120 miles away for those of you that aren't familiar. How's things going for you and Steve? I hope this didn't turn your zebra stripes into a solid color.

Oh yeah. I felt it. I was sitting at my keyboard when I heard a loud rumble. I thought it was just another large truck going over the overpass. Then it got louder. I thought, "explosion." Then, as the pictures began dancing on my desk, and my computer monitor began swaying from side to side, I realized it was a quake. At that point in time, I realized that I didn't want to be upstairs, so headed for the great outdoors. They say the epicenter was at Paducah and registered 5.0. By the time it reached us, it was at 4.4. Perhaps I'll move to California.

Hmmm. The initial reports said Paducah (I sure hope Pattis is in tact). ABC says Darmstadt, which is the home of one of my favorite "watering holes," creatively named "The Darmstadt Inn." I sure hope nothing was broken there.

Meanwhile, the zebras are keeping their separate "non-colors."

Randy,

Paducah, KY is the home of a uranium enrichment & reprocessing center.

Stay upwind of that town and wear your lead lined shorts.

yes the 5's are nice, not enough to create structural damage, but you get to hear the grounds grinding below you. it's a trip. last time was a pair 5.+ back to back, 10 miles down and away. and of course, rarely does anyone ever think of quake when it hits. i've been through countless. it seems initial reactions are a truck hit my house or drive by? or someones running on the stairs or pounding on my door?

the last one, i was cleaning my fish tank and it starts swayin - i thought my dog was jumping against it. then it's like, ohhh, we're quakin, then you ride it.

earthquakes are reminders, for those of us whom own our properties. we don't really own them.

Beav,

Read the title and the mind (a terrible thing to waste) started reeling! I'll retain my composure, though it's so hard sometimes!

One of my co-workers was sitting in the drive-through at Mickey D's when the thing hit. He said he was about to get out of his car and punch the guy in the car behind him, because he thought the guy had just rearended him. Then, he realized what was going on.

randy,

it's interesting when a quake hits how a bit of anger comes out. our reactions are of someone is doing something to create the chaos. a quake about a year ago, my girlfriend was opening the front door with her key when it hit, i was on a computer, i spin around and yell, "what the hell are you doing" then as i marched to the door, i was like ohhhhhhhhh, quakin.

because of this -you almost wonder how many people actually did get a punch down.

"hey man, it's not me!! it's the quake!!" " ohh sorry"

somethin like that,

Ain't that the truth. We're always trying to find a scapegoat for things that happen that are beyond our control. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Oh, and one more thing. The city is gearing up for the big "Summer Festival" here in Evansville. The festival will have a return "special guest." How many folks do you think are going to be a little "gun shy" when the Blue Angels start making their RUMBLING practice runs over the city?

you know prozac does really well durring times like this. after northridge, every one was popin them. in fact they took gum balls out of the quarter machines for prozac. no, but that would have been so great for the ones in need. someday i suppose.

I was working in L.A, living out towards san Frenando, when the San Fernando quake hit back in February, 1971. That one measured 6.6 on the Richter scale and was way to close for comfort. Finished my work, got rid of my home and headed back to Maryland in May of 1971. Happened early in the morning around 6am and was extremely nerve-shattering!

John,

i was only 2 1/2 when that one hit, but i do remember it, and that is prob the only thing i do remember from that age.
I remember mom running us outside and pool water was splashin everywhere, she actually fell on the way out, for a few moments she had to crawl along with us kids. pool was half empty after that one.
