What if they weren't selling so cheap?

I imagine we've all seen the thread, <"Stop selling so cheap">. The thought was raised that some of us wouldn't have our SVXi if they were carrying price tags that were, say three to five times what we paid. I know I wouldn't have mine if the asking price was $20,000!

So, the question that stands: Before you bought your SVX (or SVXi, as it were), given that the price was a hell of a lot more than it was, what would you be driving now?

When I bought my SVX last April, I had been eyeballing the XT and the Baja turbo. I'd probably be in one of those, if not still in my Legacy.

I'd be in a Legacy, not an SVX.

I'd be in a 99 Ford Taurus station wagon.

Where's the age poll thread....A large percentage of us are younger people who don't have the income to afford a 15-20K car.

I was looking at an XT6 at the same time. The SVX was $2k, the XT6 was $1k. I struggled with the decision for about a week before deciding on the SVX.

I knew the SVX had issues and would cost more to turn reliable than the XT6, but if it would have been $4k, my decision would have been quickly towards the XT6.

As far as future resale values, I don't really care. I don't think I'll ever be selling mine, I'd like to see them stay low, so I can get another. But I guess for insurance reasons, it would be nice if they go up??

So True

Very true. If the prices had remained high the membership of this forum would be much different than it is now. Remember some of us did buy these cars when they were high priced. Well, at least some of them even though we have also benefitted from the cheap cars over the last several years.

As I said in the other thread if mine wasnt selling for 2k I wouldn't have been even looking at it. I didn't even know this car existed but I sure am glad it does. And to be honest for the 2k price range I was looking at run or crap cars. Civics and what not . I couldn't have possible gotten a better car. I instantly fell in love with the car when I saw it as AJ4U2 Will tell you ^^.

I probably would be driving a Lexus SC300, but ones in really good condition are just as hard to find as an SVX. All the ones I see locally are so beat up and not cared for.

Before I bought the SVX I was looking at an Altima, Jaguar, and an Eclipse. I'm so glad I found the SVX.

I'd still be waiting

I wanted an SVX from the start. I drove a new '92 on a trip for about 1,000 miles, and then drove a '95 for a short time, only a few hundred miles. I wanted one so bad I could taste it, but the money just wasn't there. I was recently divorced and my daughter was living with me, so I had a '78 Alfa spider that I had owned for 10 years and the '67 Mercedes 250S I inherited from my mother. The spider needed engine work, and Merc was comfortable, but slow and thirsty. The PR department at Subaru offered me a Laguna Blue '96 L with about 10K miles on it for $20K, but I couldn't get financing. It went, then six months later I found my Alfa Romeo 164, and found a way to finance it. But I kept looking, and finally, last summer, found the one I now own. It was worth the wait, even if I am having to have the transmission rebuilt. The Lexus SC300 was the only viable other choice.

id probably have a 300zx converted to a fairlady with my old truck as my Daily driver. I always felt the 300's were of comparable styling with a much taller ceiling along the lines of power, but the AWD is what kept me to the SVX
