Engine Noise

So I need some help diagnosing a noise my SVX makes. The sound reminds me of a playing card stuck in a bike wheel and occurs when you apply the throttle. The noise increases in speed with an increase in engine speed. It seems to come from the right side of the engine and as usual I'm pretty clueless. If anyone has any ideas as to what could be causing it, or has needs more information to offer a guess I would appreciate it.

It could be a cracked flex plate.

Re: Engine Noise

Hi. Did you ever find out what caused that noise? Mine has the same noise now after my mechanic changed the timing belt, water pump, and valve cover gaskets. He is still trying to pinpoint the noise (which wasn't there before he did the work), even after he removed the buzzing heat shields. Thanks.

A recording of the noise would help, but it sounds like a textbook exhaust leak from the manifold.

Re: Engine Noise

Hi. Thanks for answering. It's hard to capture the noise because it only happens randomly while driving around during acceleration, like a rock rapidly rattling around in a metal can. Then it goes away for long periods sometimes, and then returns, and then goes away again. It never happens while standing still and revving the engine though. Thanks.
