transmission clutch pack questions

i have a few questions to ask of the members who have rebuilt there own transmission. in the manual it says that the transfer clutch has 5 driven plates and 5 drive plates but when i pulled the assembly apart there where six ddrive plates and six driven plates, so how many are supposed to be in there? the same thing with the high clutch the picture shows different amount then the actual number. so should i stick to the manual and tolerances or put in number that where in there then check tolerances? thank you for your time

I am in the process of rebuilding my trans too. When I pulled mine apart, I think I had 6 and 6 as well. I would put the same back in. It didn't alarm me as much because I was using a Mazda MPV manual to do mine.

Thats the difference between a regular suby 4eat and the SVX 4eat... they have the extra clutch packs because of more torque... Don't forget, autos are so much more than clutches and metals... ALL of the seals and pistons should be replaced as well as a thourough valve body cleaning and new solenoids... otherwise, why waste the time??

okay so follow the number in the transmission. what about specs, i got the transmission rebuild book from level ten and same for a stage three kit so all seals and bearings will be replaced. what about clearance specs then? follow my book or not(seems to be for 4 cyl. models)
