Went to SLC for a meet, all I got was a battery.....
Three of us scheduled a meet in Salt Lake City on Saturday. SuperRuu (Cole) is close to Salt Lake; Utah-SVX (Mark) is in Provo. I am in in Grand Junction, CO (300 miles away).
We left home at 8:00, to meet Mark in Provo at noon, Cole in SLC at 1:00-ish. The weather did not cooperate at all. Snowed on us in the mountains, deer ran in front of me (some of you know that I hit a deer with my SVX in August), rain pouring down in the lower country. Get to Provo okay, meet up with Mark, cool.... Head for the actual meet in SLC. Again, rain pouring, can't see the taillights in front of me.... All of a sudden, no power, little lights kinda glowing on the dash, tach needle bouncing, wipers going very slowly, CD player not taking CD. Barely get over to the side of the road. I was really low on gas, so thought maybe that was the problem. Let it sit for a few minutes, seemed to be okay, drove down the shoulder to the next exit for gas. Filled up, let it sit for 10 minutes, seems to be fine. Went around the corner, no go.... had to be pushed into the parking lot. There's definitely something electrical wrong. Called AAA, got towed to an actual service station (yes, there are such things left in this great nation). These guys were really wonderful!!! **Shameless plug: Ray Jones Sinclair, 4507 S 900 E** They discovered that my battery (which I bought just a year & a half ago) has a short. Since I was running the stereo, the lights & the wipers, just finally drained the battery and the alternator couldn't keep up. Replaced the battery and we were good to go. Ended up having our meet after all, just a few hours late (after spending 3 hrs at the station). We'll have pics posted soon. Mark had a digital camera but he had to leave for CA today for a family emergency, so his pics won't be on for a few days. I don't have a digital camera, so have to wait for the slow way to get stuff developed. Everywhere we take the SVX seems to be an adventure. But I guess we're never bored!!! --- Michelle

Congrats on eluding a more serious problem. One thing you mentioned caught my eye. Sinclair. Is gas still marketed under the Sinclair name in your area? They were bought out by BP many years ago, at least in eastern USA. I'd love to see the dinosaur again!
Ron.

SLC trip....
Glad it was just a battery....Could have been so much worse... , Hope the road trip was good otherwise. I have always enjoyed Utah; some great skiing right outside of town! Not much of a party place but beautiful country.
I hear that a female, non Mormon, was elected mayor of Salt Lake! Miracles do happen! Tom |
