Unhappy both belts slipped!!!

Rosie just went to go to church in her Rocket and came back in the house to tell me all her dash lights were on! Pulled it back in the garage, steering was stiff so popped the hood and could see both belts were loose. Both had been replaced in the last several months and were checked for stretching and retightened. Any ideas what would cause this? Did a search only to find a few posts about the main pulley coming apart. Pulley feels tight and appears ok. Anybody have a similar experience? I have learned to check with the wealth of knowledge on this site before trying to fiqure it out. Car has 159,000 miles and runs great. T.I.A.

Forgot to mention that both belts had jumped off the ribbed part of the pulley and were behind it and loose.

Put the belts back on and watch the engine as it runs, especially the crank pulley. Or just take it off and take a look at it as it's a good chance that is the problem if it isn't due to loose belts.

If the pulley appears normal, use a paint pen or some white out to make a line across the 3 layers (inner pulley, rubber bushing, outer pulley) put the belts back on and after running it for a while, check to see if your mark still lines up. If your line is split, then you know that your pulley is slipping.

Thumbs up Thanks!!!

Thanks to Budfreak and Hocrest for diagnosis and guidance!! It is the pulley . Will have to decide by tomorrow morning whether to go with OEM or 1-piece from Dayle. As it is Rosie's Rocket don't want to deal with alt. or ac issues in her car with the underdrive. LUV the SVX Network!! Rosie's Rocket will be a keeper as long as the network is here to help me keep it on the road. Thanks!!!!!

One thing to consider is that the one piece will not come apart like the OEM pulleys do. Just something to think about.
