Where do you buy struts?

Where the hell do we buy struts for this damn car? I see autozone has Gabriel struts or something for 150 each. I need new suspension BADLY.

Subaru ones are about $100 a set give or take from www.newsubaru.com, www.1stsubaru.com or www.subaruparts.com

Subaru in their idiot wisdom stores them on their side so they have a strong likely hood of failure (almost always within a few 1000 miles) but they're still under warranty. Doesn't help if you're paying labor though.

For cheap - Subaru

For reliability - Koni (inserts)

For lots of money - DMS

I wouldn't say Koni's are reliable esp as the SVX ages. I've seen quite a few SVXs with broken perches. I wouldn't go that route for reliablity. Besides, they aren't real good struts to begin with considering the price.

I think we would both agree that they are more reliable than the "new" OEM's.

I wouldn't say that in the least, esp when put in a 15 year old perch from the northeast and when you take price into account.

I would, but those are just inserts, correct? Still in school, and can't spend 700 on inserts alone. I wanna get struts and eibach springs and call it a day. That stuff is already almost 900 all together.

what are DMS struts? is that the one at motorsport for about 4 grand?

but i bought oem struts from subaruparts.com as well as new strut mounts all around locally (would have cost more from ordering from subaruparts.com). i would have liked to go with konis but i dont want to alter the car itself too much (yeah i know it's just swapping out the struts themselves.)

How can you tell if your struts are done in? I've had my SVX since 1992 it now has 391,000 on it and still has original struts. I've asked my subaru mechanic if they need to be replaced and he keeps saying there fine!

At first they will get oily. After a while they will fail the bounce test. That's how my rear struts failed.

Is that easy to rebuild the struts? Is there also any alternative way to fix the strut mount if they're loose?
