Car back from shop, problem still there

So I got my car back today, and the initial problem is still present. In any gear, the transmission slips out of gear and the motor will rev towards redline. If I let off the gas, the transmission will fall back into gear gradually.

This is occuring right around 3K RPM. The shifting of the car feels great from gear to gear. It has fresh fluid, filter, and new trans lines.

I suspect that the bands may need to be tightened, but I don't know what else the problem might be.

Could this be something that could take a little time with the fresh fluid and what not?

And don't even start with the "This could be the right time to do a 5 speed swap" stuff. I will get to it soon enough

Please give us more detail otherwise all are searching in the dark.

What did the "shop" do? What did you instruct them to do? Do they have transmission experience? What did they report? Have you any other problem which could be related to sensor outputs? Have you run any codes?

1. Second sentence, paragraph 2 for what they did and what I instructed them to do thinking that might be the problem.

2. Yes

3. They reported that the trans still has a slight problem shifting in and out of third gear.

4. No sensor outputs or codes poping up with error. No CEL, POWER light doesn't blink at all.

I'm stumped, I talked to a technician at the local Subaru shop where I used to work and he said it looks like it might be time for a new trans. I got to thinking about it, could it be possible that all I need is a new torque converter?

Hells bells and buggy wheels, don't lets let the professionals throw you in the too hard basket and rob you blind to get out. I gather all is fine up to 3,000 RPM. Is there the a feeling that at this point the torque available is causing something to slip.

It is encouraging that you have not mentioned any deterioration of the condition.

Ok chief, leave the sarcasm out of it. If you want to be an ass about it, then don't offer any help, unless I percieve your message in the wrong light because parts of your message were difficult to read. They didn't rob me blind because the work they did on the car was needed in the first place. The problem isn't 100% fixed, but it has come about 75% of where is was.

I used to have a problem even getting the car to move in 1st gear alone. The more I drive it, the more it seems to be "fixing" itself. I have no clue where to begin troubleshooting it from there.

Bloody hell mate, can you not interpret good English.
In no way is any sarcasm intended or inferred. The suggestion is that WE help you, rather than some other shop rip you off as you appear to have had advice that all is lost.

P.S. What is your comment regarding slip at a fixed RPM ?

Sorry about the confusion. I interpreted your message in the wrong light. This has been one hell of a pain in my arse so I'm a bit sore about the whole deal.

It just seems as though sometimes it wants to slip out of gear and in some cases, she pulls the same way she did when I bought her. I'm confused.

No problem.

" Slip out of gear ", could mean that the tranny reverts to neutral. Or do you mean that it slips and does not drive, even though the RPM increase? I would presume it is the latter, but confusion will only bring more confusion.

Slip and does not drive, as though it has been shifted into neutral. But it is still in a drive gear, whether it be 1st, 2nd, 3rd or D.

Did you pull the pan and clean the filter screen?

Harvey.

The shop said they pulled the pan and cleaned the filter screen, but I will check again with them and they said that they did..

New trans lines all the way around, including cooler lines.

I used a Lucas Additive some months ago, but not sure if I should use it now.

BUMP!!! I need to get this fixed ASAP!

I think I may have it narrowed down to three things

1. Trans pump(if there is one)
2. Clutch Packs
3. Torque converter.

HELP!!!

The above hardly narrows it down and all is expensive. You report that the slippage does not occur until 3,000 RPM and this is the strange part. I asked you if it was torque related bur you have not amplified on this.

Does slip always occur at 3,000 RPM, regardless of whether you are on the flat, or climbing a hill? Is applied torque causing the slip, or something specific occurring at a certain RPM? Up until 3.000 RPM is torque applied without any slip? This is an important factor. (Torque in simple terms = turning force.)

The slip does occur at 3,000 RPM in every gear. Third gear is probably the best gear I have at the moment because I can get it up to 4,000 RPM before the gear slips out, but I have to wait until I get past 3,000 RPM before I can roll on the throttle more liberally.

Yesterday was the first time a I had a problem climbing a hill. It feels like the applied torque is causing the slip and the torque of the car is very responsive up until 3,000 RPM.

Hope that helps.
